1. Shiney Ahuja Rape Accusation: Shiney Ahuja was put behind bars for allegedly raping his maid. This happened in June 2009, after which he was in jail for 2 months. 2. Shahrukh Khan's US detention: 2009 was a bad year for Shahrukh Khan. He was in news for all the wrong reasons, the biggest one being his detention (in his words) in US because of his surname 'Khan'
3. Neetu Chandra's alleged lesbian photoshoot: Neetu Chandra was stuck in a controversy when her photoshoot with model Krishita Gupta was accused of having lesbian overtones. Neetu Chandra's shoot for a leading men's magazine where she posed provocatively, had the shoot disrupted by protesters. The actress was very upset with the way things went on and she tried her best to say that certain people were looking at the photos with a frustrated mindset but to no avail. Neetu Chandra has moved on and the controversy did manage to elevate Neetu Chandra's sex appeal
4.Akshay Kumar unbutton controversy: Akshay Kumar's unbutton controversy at the Lakme Fashion Week created a stir, and it was not really good news. Akshay was supposed to be the showstopper for the ‘Unbuttone’ range of Levi’s jeans. According to the script, Akshay Kumar had to be unbuttoned by one of the models of the ramp. However, the Khiladi Kumar decided that his wife Twinkle Khanna should do the unbuttoning. Twinkle sitting in the front row did oblige, but the couple were slammed with obscenity charges.
5.Celina Jaitley Baba Ramdev controversy: Celina Jaitley and Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev were involved in a war of words. Baba Ramdev expressed his concern about the law making homosexuality legal. Celina Jaitley, the self-proclaimed crusader of gay rights was hurt by Baba Ramdev's point of view. Here is how the war of words went:
Baba Ramdev: "Homosexuality is like a virus and if it affects you, you have nowhere to go, they (gays) are like animals who do not realize what brings happiness. They are selfish and only care about themselves and not their families."
Celina Jaitley: "With all due respects to Baba Ramdev he may have the so called 'cure' but the point is LGBT community does NOT see homosexuality as a disease. People should not be judged on basis of what they do in their bedroom because if it was only about that... some of our taxes would have to be deployed into a special bedroom vigilance force, which I am sure these babas would love to lead. Baba Ramdev cannot and does not have the qualification or degrees to diagnose an illness without any medical background because it would fall under fake medical malpractice.Homosexuals are not interfering in anyone's life or religion but unfortunately everyone wants to interfere in theirs and tell them how they should eat, sleep and have sex. Even if Baba Ramdev screams from every rooftop of India, the reality is homosexuality will not cease to exist."
Baba Ramdev: "These actresses know nothing about Bhartiya sanskriti. They stay away from their parents and have no morals. Unke partner har mahine badalte hai.(Their partners change everytime) Jiske pas jitna gyan hota hai woh itna hi sach janta hai. Inka apna hi marg hai bus usme hi chal rahe hai" (People with limited knowledge no as much. They stick to their own rigid route)
Apart from the above 5 top Bollywood controversies in 2009, there were other controversies: the Hrithik Roshan-Barbara Mori controversy where it was reported that his wife Suzanne was staying separately with kids; the Neil Nitin Mukesh controversy about going full monty in Jail and the controversy about Karan Johar changing the term 'Bombay' to 'Mumbai' because of MNS threats.
