Paa Movie Review: Paa The Film Rocks

Paa has lived to its hype and is proving to be a quality film in every manner. Paa, the movie on Progeria, is the first movie to be made in the world, about this rare genetic disease. It is also the first movie in the world, to have a father-son role reversal. If you think reading Paa movie review, you will get information on the disease, be rest assured that this movie is about human emotions with Progeria being a backdrop. Amitabh Bachchan has given a mind blowing performance in Paa, as expected, and this one is sure to be among his top 3 career-best performance in his long chequered career.

Story of Paa: When little Auro is born, his parents live separate lives. Vidya Balan who plays mother to Auro brings the child all on her own because Amol (Abhishek Bachchan) wanted to have the child aborted. But Auro grows up to be a son with great talent. Sadly, he is suffering from an extremely rare genetic disorder, Progeria. Amol is united with his son for the son, at a school function when he rewards the child for artistic excellence. Thus begins a witty, touching and beautiful love story of relationships and family.

Technical aspects of Paa: Director and writer R.Balki should be congratulated for making a humorous and touching story, without harping on melodrama. He has done sufficient research on Progeria, and though the movie is more on human relationships rather than the disease, his efforts show. There are some real cute and witty lines in the movie. The prosthetic makeup done by Christien Tinsley(The Passion of Christ fame)and Dominie Till is sure to win a lot of awards. Editing of Paa is laudable as Anil Naidu proves that he is adept at his art. PC Sreedharan’s cinematography is brilliant takes the movie to another level altogether.

Best scenes of Paa: The climax of Paa is sure to leave you open mouthed and reaching out for the kerchief.

Best Performance in Paa: Like we said, Amitabh Bachchan is sure to win loads of awards and congratulations for his brilliant performance in Paa. This is really a debut film of Amitabh Bachchan where he leaves his baritone, body language and charisma behind and slips convincingly in a role that is definitely no child’s play. Vidya Balan gives a sincere performance and she is top-notch with her expressive eyes. Abhishekh Bachchan has done a good job as well. Arundhati Nag as the grandmother is praiseworthy and so is Pratik Katare, the classmate of Auro who gets some witty lines in the film. Paresh Rawal, in a special appearance is much better here than his hammy acts like he did De Dhana Dan..

To sum on Paa: Paa is a must watch movie. Please watch it with your entire family.

This is NOT the first movie to be made on progeria. Much before Paa, a Hollywood movie "JACK" (released in 1996, starring Robin Williams) has already made on werner syndrome -- which is one of the forms of progeria. So the main idea or inspiration of Paa seems to be based on the Hollywood movie -- Jack.
