WANTED BEATS GHAJINI'S RECORD

Salman Khan's WANTED is not only a superhit but also a record-breaker. Wanted has broken the record set by Aamir Khan's Ghajini in 2008. WANTED has netted around 7.35 crore from India on its first Monday which is more than what Ghajini had made on its first Monday. The Tuesday collection of both Ghajini and WANTED are running neck to neck. WANTED now enters the illustrious group of all-time blockbusters that have the likes of Sholay,Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Maine Pyar Kiya, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Gaddar, Om Shanti Om and Ghajini.

For the record, Ghajini in Tamil was the biggest hit of 2005 whose Hindi remake become one of the biggest blockbusters. The Telegu movie Pokhiri(2006) is one of the all time biggest hits of the Telugu film industry, whose remake in Tamil (2007) and then in Hindi, in the form of WANTED(2008) became blockbusters.

Salman Khan Markets WANTED to Success

"PR KIYA TOH DARNA KYA" is not a spoof on Salman Khan's earlier hit but it is a pat on the back to to the superstar who diligently marketed Wanted in the best manner possible. Before we go to how Salman Khan adeptly marketed Wanted, let us see how the other two Khans, Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan accused each other for lack of enough marketing prowess.

Aamir Khan on Shahrukh Khan's marketing and PR skills:
“Shah Rukh is excellent in PR. I am not sure about his marketing. You don’t have to be there for marketing your movie. Someone like Himesh Reshammiya…you see a cap and you think about him. That’s marketing. You go to a theatre and you see a Ghajini look. That’s marketing. I don’t have to be there. I think the thing in which Shah Rukh excels is PR. He has that quality and does that very well.”

Shahrukh Khan on Aamir Khan's marketing and PR skills:
" Why is there an assumption that I would listen to what Aamir Khan thinks about me? In his mind, a lot of things he has done are right for him. But obviously, it’s not the universal truth. So with due respect to his wonderful mind, I don’t accept it. I do what’s right for my film. I think every film has its own breathing space, it’s own way of working and I think Billu only has this much space in that I’ve done what was needed for it. "

"I think the case with Aamir is woh kehte hain na, naya-naya musalman hota hai? Toh woh naya-naya producer bana hai. Aamir, the producer, has a lot to do. There is a certain public awareness you need to create for a film, depending on the film itself. It can’t be ke mein Billu Barber hoon toh logon ke baal katna shuru karoon ya chadd jaoon unke sir pe. I think Ghajini was marketed very well. He’s produced one film (Lagaan) and a couple others that too in partnerships with people. We’ve been producing for a long time and we have discovered what is right and what is wrong.Actually, as much as Aamir knows the difference between marketing and PR, I don’t know the difference. I am still the old-fashioned guy who thinks PR is a dirty word, and maybe so does Aamir, that’s why he said it. But the fact that I speak to people I have known over the years is because of a personal relationship rather than a professional need, which makes people like me a little more."

Salman Khan's marketing agenda for Wanted
Salman's marketing for Wanted was simple and straight. As it is, he is quite popular on television for Dus Ka Dum. His impromptu hosting and his affable nature has made people warm up to him because he comes across someone, the junta can relate to. In a way, he presold the movie to the audience by his presence. He has used the quiz show as a marketing platform for his colleagues and friends to showcase their films (and boy, it really does work). Salman Khan marketed Wanted on Dus Ka Dum by involving the producer Boney Kapoor and wife Sridevi, director Prabhudeva and the gorgeous Ayesha Takia in the game show.

Salman Khan improved Wanted's stake even more, when he cast himself in CID, the most popular TV serial in Sony Television. The subject of the detective case was also cleverly done- piracy of Wanted movie DVDs.

Salman gave a different touch to journalism by holding a press conference where he turned the tables by interviewing the reports instead. He also gave interviews to tabloids where he offered his take on media coverage, his marriage speculation and rivalry with Shahrukh Khan.

Salman also promoted Wanted in shopping malls and multiplexes.Salman Khan still continues to promote Wanted in his own intimable style and the media is lapping it up because Salman Khan is hot property now As of today, he was the guest editor to Times of India's Mumbai Times magazine. Now Salman is everywhere: movies, newspaper, malls and online. Talk about being the most Wanted actor!

Salman Khan Wanted, Ayesha Takia Most Wanted

With Wanted becoming the first super hit of 2009 after a long period of inconsequential, boring films (can't blame people to be satisfied with the mundane 'Kaminey'), Salman Khan is now the toast of Bollywood. Salman Khan has shown excellent PR skills and has really marketed Wanted very well. If Salman Khan is now 'wanted', the lovely Ayesha Takia is the most wanted. In the tinselworld, where every actress is trying to outdo the other in bikini clad figure and oomph appeal, Ayesha has always worked in her own terms.

Ayesha had shown her brilliance in the movie Socha Na Tha. After which, she worked in some real stupid films that were an injustice to her talent. Movies later, Dor fell on her lap and Ayesha Takia gave a splendid performance. Fully covered, Ayesha Takia had the guys rooting for her. The only actress in the horizon who has not really exposed in the movies or even agreed for a kissing scene, Ayesha Takia has clearly showed that in spite of all such gimmicks, she is the most wanted actress.

Bollywood casting couch exposed by Rupa Ganguly

Rupa Ganguly hot smoking pic

Bollywood casting couch speculations were given new light by Rupa Ganguly, the famous TV and movie actress, in Sach Ka Saamna TV serial. Today was the last episode of Sach Ka Saamna and the 42 year old actress revealed some starting truths about her personal life, including the infamous Bollywood casting couch. Full marks to Rupali Ganguly for being achingly real.

Rupa Ganguly said that she was asked for sexual favors in returns for roles. She was asked for her ‘day rates’ and ‘night rates,’ which she said, were very disgusting. The worst insult she said was when she had received a call on her landline, which said that someone had paid Rs.50000 for a night with her. This was when Rupa had decided to leave Mumbai for good, and settle for Kolkata. This was in the 90s after Mahabharata serial made her famous . The bold and beautiful actress has admitted that casting couch in Bollywood is lesser in the present times, compared to old times. She said that people today are a lot more professional at their work. Just goes on to say that the ‘old’ generation was really not so clean as is perceived.

Rupa Ganguly also revealed some of her personal truths in which she said that she had a silent crush on one of the actors from the Mahabharata serial. She also said that she was addicted to smoking at one point of time. Rupa Ganguly confessed on having extra-marital affair too. The lady also said that she will never be able to find a perfect husband, after her divorce with Dhruba Mukherjee (mechanical engineer) whom she’d been married for 16 years. She confessed that she loved her husband and wished that he had understood her job schedule well enough.

Rupa Ganguly confessed that she was in love with her 31 year old boyfriend Diveyndu who stays with her. Though she said that she loved him as an answer to one of the final questions, the polygraph didn’t agree with her, which is why she lost the game. However Rupa Ganguly said that she will never be able to marry her boyfriend Diveyndu, because he was too young for her. Rupa said that the definition of ‘love’ for a woman in her 40s was different from the definition of ‘love’ for a woman who is 25. She guessed that this conflict in her mind, may have led to the disagreement with the polygraph.

Sach Ka Saamna season 1 ended with the Rupa Ganguly episode.

Wanted Movie Review: Paisa Vasool Pokiri touch!

Wanted Movie Review

Wanted, the Pokhiri remake, starring Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia is an excellent masala entertainer, the sort of full-on entertainer, that we Bollywood fans have been thirsting for, since Ghajini. Incidentally, the 'bloody' romance Ghajini the Southern remake which was the biggest hit of 2008 has given way to Wanted, possibly one of the biggest hits of 2009. Wanted will go down as one of Salman Khan’s biggest hits and that is a commitment for sure. As Salman Khan says, “EK baar jo maine commitment ki toh main apne aap ki bhi nahin sunta

Story of Wanted: Radhe (Salman Khan) is a hardcore gangster and a sharpshooter with a quick razor sharp brain. He works for Gani Bhai (Prakash Raj), the dreaded gangster, but on his own terms. He does not fancy working for any boss, but for money. He changes loyalties only if the money is right. Radhe works his way into Gani Bhai’s gang. Gani bhai’s brother dies in the gangwar and the don is forced to take matters in his hands and returns to India. . At the same time, there is a lecherous police officer who lusts for Jhanvi(Ayesha Takia) who falls in love with Radhe inspite of knowing that he is from a criminal background. Matters reach to such a proportion that Gani Bhai asks Radhe to bomb a minister while addressing a meeting on children’s day. But his dream is foiled, when he is arrested. However the gangsters get even with the police commissioner by kidnapping and raping his young daughter. But they soon find themselves in soup when the gangsters realize the reality of Salman Khan.

Plus points of Wanted: Wanted is Salman Khan’s comeback vehicle, and this movie will spiral him into top spot. The action in the movie is amazing and full credit to Vijayan Master, the man who was also the stunt director for the Telegu and Tamil Pokhiris, for coming up with stunning stunts. The comic track is also good enough and so is the cute romantic track. After a long time, we have a full on masala entertainer film, a respite from the boring, candifloss movies and inane comedies that dominated 2009. Wanted is the best example of a formula film that works.

Minus points of Wanted: Music is a big disappointment in Wanted. Unlike the Telegu Pokiri and Tamil Pokkiri, the Hindi version Wanted falls short in the music department. We had high expectations from music that really perked up the South Indian versions. In Wanted, some songs look like distractions in the plot, while in the South Indian versions, the songs were really melodious and foot-thumping. Wanted really needed better music directors than Sajid –Wajid who have given very monotonous, predictable scores.

Performances in Wanted: Salman Khan is definitely ‘Wanted’ after this film. He is to Wanted, what Aamir Khan was to Ghajini. Mahesh Manjrekar suits the role of the lecherous inspector to the hilt, he is perfect. The voluptuous Ayesha Takia looks amazing and acts her role very well. Prakash Raj, as Gani Bhai is very effective, which is why he has been the undisputed choice for all the three versions of the film. Govind Namdeo, Manoj Pahwa, Inder Kumar and Vinod Khan render good support as well.

Best scenes in Wanted: The movie is packed with impactful scenes especially the opening scene of Salman Khan, the lift scene between Ayesha Takia and Salman Khan, the couple of fight scenes in the train and the market are very good. The scene where Prakash Raj tries to escape from the prison in vain, is simply superb.

Did you know?: Ayesha Takia was approached for the original Telegu Pokiri, but the role actually went to Ileana D’Cruz. Ayesha then got to act in the Bollywood version, Wanted.

To sum it up: Go watch Wanted if you are a fan of Salman Khan. If you do not like him as much, you will still like him after watching the film. Wanted is sure to attract the masses for its paise-vasool value.

Akshay Kumar's Biggest Fear

Akshay Kumar is back again on television as the host of Khatron Ke Khiladi Level 2 on Colors Channel. The action and comedy star savors his role as the reality show host, not to mention the plum price he is getting for the role. Putting more light on his role as the show host of Khatron Ke Khiladi, Akshay Kumar says, " This is as free and as untamed as I can get in front of the camera. When I am enthusiastic, I mean it, when I get angry that I dont think they are trying hard enough for me, or their prestige-I damn well mean it"

Before putting his contestants through hell, Akshay Kumar has performed the stunts himself to be doubly sure that all the stunts are doable. He has nothing but accolades for women. "These women have learned that there is nothing that can't be handled anymore. I am afraid, us guys are going to work a lot harder to impress women from now on. When all those housewives see these young pretty models dipping their heads into a box of cockroaches and swimming with crocodiles, and come out alive and feeling proud and amazed at their bravery, I know it will make them think twice before they scream for their husbands. It is all about spreading awarenes that even if it scares you-try and conquer one thing a day that frightens you."

Akshay Kumar says 'action' is an 'art' not something to 'fear about'. If we were all taught to jump out of planes as kids, we wouldn't be scared of doing it now, do we?"" he states as a matter-of-fact. He concludes, 'There is nothing to fear, but fear itself". Akshay Kumar is one of the biggest reality show hosts in Indian television
