De Dana Dan Review: Repeat Act

Priyadarshan is back doing what he thinks is right for the unintelligent viewer: De Dana Dan. He gets an ensemble of character actors: Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Shakti Kapoor, Mahesh Joshi,Archana Puran Singh, Aditi Gowitriker,Vikhram Gokhale and Johnny Lever etc in this 'comedy of errors' which looks more like errors of comedy. If De Dana Dan was among the first few movies of Priyadarshan in Bollywood, it wouldnt have been so frustrating, but since people already know his movies, this one turns out to be repetitive

Story of De Dana Dan:
The story of De Dana Dan is based in Singapore. Akshay Kumar plays a repetitive role of a servant, Nitin Bankar, who is having a very hard time making ends meet, with hardly any money to fend for himself, leave alone his girlfriend Katrina Kaif. He is a slave of Archana Puran Singh, who treats him worse than her dog 'Moolchand ' (real funny name for a pomerian, one must say). He and buddy Suniel Shetty, who is also losing out on many things including his girlfriend Sameera Reddy, due to his economic condition, decide to kidnap the dog.

The dog escapes mid-way while the two guys register themselves in a hotel, from where they think they would call Archana for ransom amount. Archana, when she gets up, in the morning, sees, her dog safe and sound; and believes that her servant Nitin Bankar (Akshay Kumar) is missing. Now, the hotel where the two guys are staying, has a wedding thing going on where Sameera Reddy's girlfriend is being married to another guy. There are lots of things happening in the hotel, a call girl being solicited, money changing hands, adultery happening and murder plot being hatched. Finally, the move ends with a bomb exploding in a water tank and a mini flood carrying all the characters away.

Plus points of Dena Dan
1. Rajpal Yadav, as the corrupt waiter, has less role but he does a genuinely good job and is the only thing, one can possibly remember after the movie gets over. Johnny Lever does a self-deprecating role, very well.

2. If you like a lot of physical comedy, Tom and Jerry type chases, loud dialogues like that of an Inder Kumar film and non-violent action, you may like De Dana Dan.

Minus points:
1. The fact that De Dana Dan does a cheap imitation of some of the previous comedies, is not funny actually. Sample this: The scene where Akshay Kumar tries to stealthily fish out the 'tipped' money , that Katrina Kaif paid to the waitress and the waitress telling him to take the pennies as well, is a direct lift from Yeh Tera Ghar, Yeh Mera Ghar (a Priyadarshan movie).

2. Akshay Kumar is missing for 40 minutes in the films; he is locked up in the cupboard. This gives a chance for other character actors to do their job. Since Akshay Kumar is missing out of the action(possibly to make a statement that Akshay Kumar doesn't cut people's roles), the film falls flat for sometime.

3. Suniel Shetty's character is considerably reduced. Just because he is opposite Sameera Reddy gives an illusion that he is one of the main leads. The less said about the lead actresses, the better. They simply do not have anything to do. It is a case of 22 character actors and Priyadarshan has to deal with all of them, so positively some of them end up getting short-changed. Pray, why Shakti Kapoor is hell bent on doing the horny letch for the 100th time and why does Neha Dhupia does the prostitute act in almost every film? Chunkey Pandey is wasted too.

4. There is not even one smart, witty one liner; everything is substituted for physical comedy and situational humor, which turns crude at times.

Best scenes of De Dana Dan:
1. Rajpal Yadav scenes. One in which he is cheekily eating and drinking contents of food that he has to serve to customers and the second one in the climax, where he floats with a tray of drinks

Performances in De Dana Dan:
Neha Dhupia as a hot-headed hooker scores immensely and does a good job. Johnny Lever and Rajpal Yadav do justice to their roles. Akshay kumar looks very good and acts with absolute ease in a role that he can sleepwalk through.

Katrina Kaif should stop doing roles just for 'good luck' and Sameera Reddy is in an evil world, where there are no scripts written for her. Aditi Gowitriker, the girl whom people can relate to more easily due to her Bigg Boss appeal, has more role than Sameera.

Final words of De Dana Dan
If you dont mind repetitive comedy, as long as it is from Priyadarshan, De Dana Dan will suit you.

Great Plans for the Paa Premiere

Abhishek Bachchan will be entering the premiere of PAA dad Amitabh Bachchan(December 3, 2009) on piggy back. Though Big B tried hard to dissuade his son from doing so because of possible back pain, Abhishek is adamant about it, and has got his way through, because anyway it was his own idea.

The premiere of Paa wil be decorated like a kid’s nursery. With the possible success of PAA, Big B’s AB Corp will be back in business, after 5 years(last movie released was Viruddh). Amitabh was supposed to, initially, be dressed up as Auro, his character in the film. But they decided against the idea, as the makeup artist would have to especially be flown in from the US and Amitabh as Auro would prove to be distracting for the guests.Amitabh will receive the guests at the premiere along with the six child actors who play his friends in the film –Nimit, Pratik, Taruni, Varun, Gaurav and Dhruven. All friends of the Bachchans’ are invited to the premiere. Balki is happy too, because his friends from the ad world will be there for the December 3 premiere.

Paa tells the story of an intelligent and witty 13 yr old boy, Auro. He lives with his mother Vidhya (Vidya Balan), a gynaecologist. Amol Arte (Abhishek Bachchan) is Auro's father is a young politician full of ideals. He is out to prove to the world that 'politics' is not a bad world. The story revolves around the relationship between Amol and Auro.

Introducing Amitabh Bachchan in Paa

Amitabh Bachchan Paa

Director Balki who gave Amitabh Bachchan one of his better films, in the form of Cheeni Kum, is now going to release PAA starring Big B as a progeria patient on December 4 2009. Abhishek Bachchan who plays father to Amitabh Bachchan in the film says,” Balki, when he set the look of the film, felt very strongly that whatever performance Paa comes out with, it should be something we have never seen Amitabh Bachchan do before. And like he said that before, that he has worked very hard to remove Amitabh Bachchan from Amitabh Bachchan. So he thought it was very apt to say 'introducing Amitabh Bachchan' because here's a whole new Amitabh Bachchan, not only does he look differently, he will behave differently and act differently and speak differently

Amitabh Bachchan will play the role of a 12 year old boy Auro, suffering by Progeria.
Director Balki says, “Why 12-year-old? Mr Bachchan behaved like a 10-year-old on the sets. He just allowed the child within him to surface to become Auro. He threw so many tantrums just like an uncontrollable child that we had to literally discipline him at times. On the sets, he would also stomp his feet like a brat and just go on whining, ‘I want…I want…I want!’ until he got what he wanted. We were frightened by the level he had imbibed his character.”

And the complete transformation was not only emotional but also physical. Apart from the prosthetics required for the character, Auro has just 4-5 teeth. “Mr Bachchan’s gummed grin has to be seen to be believed. No matter how prepared you are as a filmmaker to work with this all-pervasive idol of an actor, you are still taken aback by what he does to his character,” says Balki.

Auro is also a chocolate addict. Although Mr Bachchan’s health doesn’t permit him to eat too many sweets, he constantly nibbled chocolates on the sets. “We had to often pull those bars of chocolate away from his hands. You see, chocolates are good for the metabolism level of those who suffer from Progeria. So Auro had to be shown constantly eating chocolates,” says Balki.

Considering the effort put in by Mr Bachchan, should he get ready to receive all the debutant awards next year? “I sure hope the awards will honour him in the child category or the debutant category."

Big B is the Bigg Boss: Humility Personified.

Amitabh Bachchan has donned the mantle of pop philosopher and host really well on Bigg Boss. He is hosting the show remarkably, and uses his own charismatic touch of fluid Hindi as an icing to the cake. The best part about Big B is that he does not hog the limelight and uses his famous humility to the show’s advantage. His humility makes him iconic than he ever is. One of the touching moments in Bigg Boss with Big B as the host, was when he united Sherlyn Chopra who had an estranged relationship with her mother on the week of her eviction.

Amitabh Bachchan is going stronger than ever before. He hosts the biggest show in India, Bigg Boss; he does top quality endorsment and yes, Big B is also doing, possibly the toughest role of his life, Paa, that will release December 3, 2009. Here are excerpts of Amitabh Bachan’s humble nature that comes out in one of his interviews with Hindustan Times newspaper(www.hindustantimes.com)

You are 67 and still going strong... would you say that's a good signature tune for you?
I do not know if I am still going strong, but, yes, I'm alive and I exist. I've never wished for any signature or tune or any fancy recognition or accolade. I'm grateful for the jobs that I get and am thankful I'm given opportunity for work.

How do you assess the year that has zipped by?
I really have no recollection of what went by. I know what I'm doing now. Age does have this adverse effect on one and I'm no different from any other. It may seem power-packed for you, but for me it is just another day, another job. I endeavour to do what is assigned to me to the best of my ability.

What, according to you, was the most significant thing in your life this year?
That I'm still alive!

You took two months off to be with your friend, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, in Singapore.
Yes, I was with Amar Singhji during the time he was in Singapore under treatment. I was aware that he would be going for treatment and so I had planned all my work in a manner where I could be free to be by his side. I finished all my pending work by June and did not take up any assignments after. When his condition had improved, I accepted the Colors offer for BB3 ("Bigg Boss 3").

How rejuvenating and introspective did that time-off prove to be?
I was in Singapore not to rejuvenate or to introspect, I was there for a friend, a member of my family, while he recouped.

What are your plans regarding more offers? Is it true you've decided to do only one film a year?
Yes, I do wish to do films and, yes, there are interesting offers, which I shall consider. And, no, it shall not be one film a year. I am not that big or important to make such decisions. It is a wonder that I am getting any offers at all.

You are back on television after creating history with "Kaun Banega Crorepati" (KBC). How will you describe this new experience with "Bigg Boss 3"?
The experience of "Bigg Boss 3" has just begun, but it is different from KBC and it gets more intricate as we move along. The medium and those that are attached to it work diligently round the clock and it is a marvel to see the amount of thinking and labour that goes on behind the scenes to create something like "Bigg Boss". I'm most impressed with that. The coordination and the management need all the praise there is for their unfailing effort and commitment. I'm merely a tool that follows instructions, but what goes on beyond me is what needs to be recognised and appreciated.

How comfortable are you interacting with the "Bigg Boss" housemates?
It is good. You would need to ask the channel or the housemates what they felt. I just feel very saddened when I have to announce the person who has been voted out by public and in-house processes and then later to spend time with them after their eviction. It's much like what I used to feel when on KBC I had to inform the participant that his answer was wrong.

You've another release "Paa" - the film offered you a unique chance to play a child. Did you relive your childhood through this part?
Not so much my childhood, but the childhood of my children and my grandchildren. A lot of my interpretation has been picked up from what I remember of Abhishek when he was that age and from my grandchildren now as I see them grow.

The talented duo Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor did similar roles in two of the most acclaimed films of 2009, Kurbaan and New York. While Kareena Kaif played the role of a woman who is used as a pawn in international terrorism, Katrina Kaif played the role of a woman whose husband wants to blow FBI headquarters.

Both the actresses will be up for awards this year. So who has really impressed, in acting skills? Katrina Kaif in New York or Kareena Kapoor in Kurbaan?

Kurbaan Movie Review: Kurbaan Excels!

Kurbaan, a Karan Johar Movie(yes!) directed by Rensil D’Silva (story writer of the trend setting Rang De Basanti) is a hard hitting movie. Wonderfully evocative, thrilling and deftly executed, Kurbaan is one of the better movies in the recent three years, not just 2009. Though one can compare Kurbaan with New York and Fanaa, the two terror predecessors, Kurbaan holds strong and create its own unique identity in Bollywood. Of course, there are flaws in Kurbaan and the story line is predictable, but the execution and treatment is smooth.

Story of Kurbaan:
Kurbaan is a terror cake with the love story being the only ‘cherry’ on top. To elucidate, the story starts with Avantika(Kareena Kapoor) a professor, coming to Delhi from New York to see her ailing father. She joins the university and ends up meeting a new professor called Ehsaan Khan(Saif Ali Khan) who charms her and wins her heart. He even convinces her father (DDLJ in a rush!) who relents. Avantika gets a call to return to New York and Ehsaan agrees to join her. They get married and stay in a home with Muslim neighbors for company. One day, Avantika’s neighbor Salma(Nauheed Cyrusi) comes to her place saying that her life is in danger and that her husband would kill her anytime. When Avantika tells this to her husband, he does not pay much of an interest. The inquisitive girl tries to find out for herself what is cooking in the lives of her neighbors. She happens to espy a vicious plot of international terrorism being hatched right next to her house and her fear gets quadrupled when she sees Salma dead. Avantika soon realizes that she is a mere pawn in the nefarious plot of international terrorism

Technical details of Kurbaan:
It is not easy to make movies like Kurbaan and New York. If you take Kurbaan, it is a pretty complicated subject which has to touch base in all aspects: terrorism, Islam, investigative journalism, conspiracy etc. Kurbaan’s plus points is its quick pace. There are moments of thrills, high drama, gore, betrayal, lust, suspense-a thriller which befits a Sidney Sheldon novel or a classy Hollywood thriller. Kurbaan has been blessed with the best technical finesse that is unmatched by any movie this year. The editing is slick and the script is classy. I wouldn’t be surprised if either the script or the editing of Kurbaan is up for awards this year. Hemant Chaturvedi’s cinematography is outstanding, making the movie stand out in terms of appearance.Anurag Kashyap and Niranjan Iyengar are bang on with dialogues. The combination of superb lines with amazing screenplay, razor sharp editing and Salim Sulaiman’s noteworthy music elevate the film to admirable proportions. There are two tracks in the film ‘Shukar Allah’ and ‘Ali Maula’, both are gems.

Plus points of Kurbaan:
• The amazing chemistry between Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Though it is not really a traditional love story, the comfort level and chemistry between the pair is commendable, and possibly the best seen in years.
• The crisp editing and flow of the film. Both parts of the movie, before and after interval, are well balanced.
• Kurbaan scores on three levels: the terrorist’ s misplaced sense of beliefs, the helpless spectator who has to bear the brunt and the person who keeps a tab on the terror movement.
• The movie does not preach but is still capable of making people talk and indulge in a debate. Not surprisingly, people who came out of the cinema hall had ‘international terrorism’ as their favorite topic of discussion.
• Vivek Oberoi’s characterization is the most believable and Karan Johar was right when he said ‘watch out for him’
• The choice of locations, credibility in the form of events, people , props etc are noteworthy. Karan Johar has given reporters, cops and FBI agents their due space and importance in the story.
• For once the love-making, though over-rated, is justified in the film. Unlike other films which talk about skin show as a part of the script, when it is not relevant (remember Hello!), Kurbaan’s love making was needed. Also the build-up to the kiss scene (not the smooch, the build-up) in the first half is much hotter than the love making scene.

Best Scenes in Kurbaan
Kurbaan is loaded with memorable scenes, some of them which can leave permanent impact. There is an adrenalin rush every 30 minutes. Here are a few good scenes of Kurbaan:
1. Saif Ali Khan firing rounds at the US police just before the interval and destroying all evidence before scooting off.
2. Vivek Oberoi’s scene where he tells a US student “we will leave your country if you promise to leave ours”
3. The shopping scene where Vivek Oberoi confides in Kareena Kapoor
4. The gripping scene where Saif Ali Khan and Om Puri tells Vivek Oberoi to shoot a person in a fast food restaurant
5. The coffee to Vivek Oberoi scene(aint telling you more)
6. The spell-binding 35 minute climax which is a superb finale to the buildup of events. The bomb blasts and firing at the underground tube stations is by no means, the easiest thing in the world to shoot!

Minus points of Kurbaan
Silly mistakes in Kurbaan were not justified. If these errors were done away, this gripping movie could have been a critical masterpiece. Here are the flaws of Kurbaan:
1. How come the FBI officer who is so close to the suicide bomber does not die when he explodes right in front of him? He just emerges out of the ashen smoke like the erstwhile comic character of Hindi films whose face is colored with coal-like smoke and there is no other damage done.
2. Saif Ali Khan who has a one dimensional attitude towards jihad, suddenly become ‘all human’ at the end; the change of heart is not really convincing. But may be, the director wanted to take cinematic liberties with this one. Painting him a villain throughout may have made the audience ‘not relate’ to him This is one place where New York was strong, John Abraham’s character was determined to kill right till the end.
3. When the FBI knows of this man called Ehsaan, a professor who teaches Modern Islam in a US college, why dint they go, get him?

Performances in Kurbaan
Kurbaan is one film which has very good performances by every character in the film. Saif Ali Khan’s icy personality reminds us of his Ek Hasina Thi persona. He has puts in a layered performance. Kareena Kapoor is very good in emotional scenes. Watch her in the climax scene when she asks Ehsaan for his real name, simply fantastic. Vivek Oberoi can be up for an award nomination(with Neil Nitin Mukesh for New York as his competitor) for his superb portrayal of Riyaaz. He also excels in the climax scene and shows that he can deliver the goods anytime, everytime.

Kirron Kher puts in a superlative performance and Om Puri makes an impact through minimal expressions. Dia Mirza, Nauheed Cyrusi and Kulbhushan Kharbanda shine in their brief roles.

Final words of Kurbaan
Kurbaan is the most powerful and gripping movie of 2009. Watch it for its riveting narrative, thrills and a climax that can leave you tongue-tied. Karan Johar can finally say “Move Over Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Kurbaan is now the best movie of Dharma Productions”

Bigg Boss 3 shows its real Colors

Bigg Boss Season 3 has stood by its channel name for sure, today. Yes, Bigg Boss showed off its real colors by exposing the trio who were planning, plotting and bitching all the way, in today's landmark episode. Criticized for being not so sensational as the other two seasons of Bigg Boss, today's episode was a high flying sixer in every manner.

With too much amount of planning and plotting going in the Bigg Boss house, Bigg Boss decided to put an end to all these. All these days, it was Rohit Verma and Vindoo who had instigated the Bigg Boss house members by telling that the husband and wife pair of Bakhtiyaar and Tanaaz were at an advantage, and were making schemes to separate them. Viewers had seen enough of Rohit Verma and Vindoo sweet-talking in front of people and back-biting against them. Worse of all, they were openly discussing nominations with Raju Shrivastav participating in their conversations.

Bigg Boss decided to teach the trio of Rohit Verma, Vindoo and Raju Shrivastav a lesson for openly discussing nomination. In today’s landmark episode in Bigg Boss, which was possibly the best this season, Bigg Boss asked everyone to nominate their choices as usual, but the trio were kept away from nominating. All house members were called in the living room and the trio’s bitching and gossiping were shown to the entire house on a wide screen television.

Bakhtiyaar, true to his crying and abusing manner, swore that he would never leave Rohit Verma and Vindoo who had made his wife cry. Vindoo laughed the entire thing off, as no big deal Rohit Verma, said that he does not belong either here or there, and began to cry hysterically. Aditi broke down on feeling cheated by Rohit Verma. There was drama at Bigg Boss house today and a strict punishment awaits Vindoo(in jail), Rohit Verma(in a cage) and Raju Shrivastav( in a pool). Read about more happenings in Bigg Boss house.

Tum Mile Movie Review: Rainy Reason Wasnt Needed!

Tum Mile, one of the most awaited films, since the past two months, drizzles most of the time with spurts of heavy showers intermittently. As predicted, this is a story of two lovers, separated by fragile egos, who begin to understand each other finally, in the July 26’2005 mega downpour.
Story of Tum Mile
Akshay(Emraan Hashmi) and Sanjana(Soha Ali Khan) chance upon each other on board their flight to Mumbai from Cape Town. They are actually meeting after a period of 6 years. The movie goes into the flash-back mode and intermittently swings into the present. When it goes into the flashback, we come to know about how the two courted each other and how they broke up eventually. Emraan Hashmi plays an art student and Soha Ali Khan plays an activist. They fall in love, settle for a move-in relationship, and even move out quickly. The main reason for the rift is the monetary issue and the mega-ego of Emraan Hashmi’s character.
When they meet in Mumbai, both take solace in each other in the midst of the grappling Mumbai floods The last few minutes of the story dwell on how Emraan Hashmi plays the perfect hero, saves his girlfriend and loses his best friend in the biggest downpour of Mumbai history.
Plus points of Tum Mile:
1. Pritam may just win an award for his superb music in Tum Mile, considering there was hardly any good music (apart from Himesh Reshamiya’s Radio) worth noting this year.
2. The camera work by Prakash Kutty and the way the floods have been shot (no matter it looks a tad ‘set-like’ in some cases), has been done in a commendable manner.
3. Kunal Deshmukh has chosen a very good subject, that people can relate to, as no one in India, particularly Mumbai, has forgotten the 26th July rain calamity. He also does a good job in covering the disaster part.
4. The screenplay is very good, especially the toggling between the flashback and the present.
Minus points of Tum Mile:
1. The treatment of the love story is very predictable and does not really surprise you. The story of a guy being arrogant and ‘khudar’ enough not to care for the monetary support from his wife/girlfriend has been seen in so many films, like Raja Hindustani and Aashiqui. It is the typical ‘rich girl meets poor boy’ story. Aww, come on now! Kunal Deshmukh, the director, had a much better love story in Jannat, something that was worth relating. Scenes like the hero’s friend dying, and the hero saving lives of all and sundry, are seen before as well.

2. Sadly, in the movie Tum Mile, the ‘flooding of Mumbai’ looks like a mechanism to move the story ahead, it does not even look like a back-drop. If you take the example of Titanic, the sinking of the ship blended superbly with the romance, and you could feel for the characters. You do not get that ‘involvement’ in Tum Mile

3. There was news that the ‘flood in Mumbai ‘ shots in Tum Mile were edited out by Mahesh Bhatt, much to the chagrin of director Kunal Deshmukh. Not really a wise decision, one must say, who goes for the romance, when your promos show the worst natural disaster in Mumbai?

4. The flood sequences looked copied from Titanic.

5. There is hardly any chemistry between Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan, they don't really click as a couple.

6. Why will Emraan Hashmi's friend be so adamant that he(Emraan) propose to Soha when their lives are at stake due to rains? Wonder why the director didn't have any other situation for him to trip and fall to his death

7. Characterization of Emraan Hashmi is suspect: He is shown to have an arrogant nature, who even gets the goat of a rich investor of art, for no problems. Then, we do not understand how he coolly goes back ‘to work’ and becomes successful.

Performances in Tum Mile:
Emraan Hashmi gives a superbly, understated performance, which shows why he can carry off a movie on his shoulders, and that too without showing off muscles. Soha Ali Khan, does go over-the-top in some scenes, especially when it comes to outbursts, but otherwise she is fine. Believe, it or not, the best performer in Tum Mile is debutant RJ Mantra. He even manages to steal the thunder from Hashmi, when put in the same frame. His death is the best scene of Tum Mile.

Final Words about Tum Mile
People want to see Tum Mile, for the 26/11 Mumbai floods rather than a love story. Their promos also show the same thing. Showing a boring love story that has been seen numerous times and relegating the Mumbai floods to a mere backdrop may make viewers feel cheated. The best testimony was in the theater itself: they booed during the romantic scenes and watched transfixed to the screen during the Mumbai floods scenes.

Jail is a Serious Movie Bollywood Movie Review

Jail, director Madhur Bhandarkar’s new film that talks about the plights and woes of people in a prison is a hard-hitting story. However, the movie is too serious and also becomes a documentary, rather than an element of entertainment. Madhur Bhandarkar moves the story of Jail, his way, with every character in the film having his own reason and temperament in the jail
The Story of Jail:
After showing Neil Nitin Mukesh, who plays the character of Parag, going in the jail, the story goes towards the flashback to tell us why he exactly went to the jail. It so happens that Parag Dixit, an upper middle class corporate guy, is falsely implicated in a drug deal case, and lands in the jail. Parag’s friendJail, director Madhur Bhandarkar constructs a Kafkaesque nightmare. Parag Dixit, an upper-middle class, corporate man, played by Neil Nitin Mukesh, is circumstantially implicated in a drug bust and lands up in jail.

Parag and his airhostess girlfriend Mansi(Mughda Godse) is sharing home with room-mate Keshav, who uses everything that belongs to Parag, like his towel, his toothpaste and even cellphone. The last thing put Parag in trouble. On the day Parag is promoted, he is driving along with his friend Keshav, when the police intercepts their vehicle. Keshav pulls out a gun and the police fire him in retaliation. Parag is arrested and crores of cocaine lying in the vehicle is seized. Parag is arrested and thus starts his miserable life. The fact that Keshav dies in the hospital seals his fate as a convict who would spends most of his life in the jail. Lots of trials and tribulations set in and lot of nervous breakdowns later, Parag’s resilience sees him through, and an important person who tells him to not lose hope is Nawab(Manoj Bajpai)

Then apart from Parag, there are other elements with their own sob stories and backgrounds: an underworld don with a mobile phone, a person who landed in jail because he killed a person who was trying to molest his wife who was once a prostitute, corrupt cops, good cops, convict with a heart of gold(Manoj Bajpai), a guy arrested for betting in cricket, a scamster-shayar, a character modeled on Alister Pereira who ran down pedestrians a few years ago.

Plus points of Jail:
1. The struggle and strife of Parag in the jail and how every ray of optimism pales out in his life is well documentsed.
2. Good amount of research work has been done in the film.

Minus points of Jail:
1. Madhur Bhandarkar’s style has become repetitive and predictable. The first half that bases the characters and the second half that moves the plot was there in Traffic Signal, Fashion and now in this film too. But having said that, he is one of the finest directors and does justice to the subject. We just wish he made it a little bit more entertaining than making it documentary style.
2. Jail, because of its serious content(without a single humorous line) may find it difficult to gather audience, who loves their humor, thrills, action and romance.
3. The premise of Parag being put in jail just because he was caught with drugs that he dint know about doesn’t really gel. The cops who fired at Keshav, could have surely said that he never opened fire not did he drive the car ahead. He is arrested purely on circumstantial evidence, and it is possible that one of the cops could have stated this. This however is stated at the end of the movie with a better lawyer doing the job.

Best performances in Jail:
Neil Nitin Mukesh puts in a spirited performance, but he has three emotions to show: despair, perplexed and fright. Mughda Godse doesn’t have much of a role. Seems like directors are only ready to show her as a good omen, rather than give her good roles. The character actors do a decent job especially Manoj Bajpai

Final points:
Jail is real and not sensational, which makes the entire effort looking depressing. If you want to feel that you are in jail, please watch Jail.

Bipasha Basu Bold and Beautiful in Pankh

Bipasha Basu, one of the hottest actress in Bollywood, literally and 'figure'atively loves to experiment with her looks and her performances. The beautiful actress who has a good quota of hit commerical films, comedy films like All the Best, has a good measure of art cinema as well. One such movie that Bipasha Basu is doing and is well on its way to release is Pankh.

In director Shudipto Chattopadhyay’s "Pankh", Bipasha plays an imaginary character. "I play an alter ego. I am an imaginary character - the protagonist in the film is a boy called Maradona; he has done a fabulous job," said Bipasha who was recently seen in "Race"."It is about a boy who goes through gender confusion. He is a child artiste but plays a female child artiste and is very popular. Then he grows up and wants to be launched as a hero but there is a kind of confusion in his mind.

"The boy’s family is poor and they want to make it big. The pressure of parents and ridicule make it a very sad situation for him. Eventually he creates this imaginary character he is in love with. And that imaginary character happens to be an actress as well. It is quite a crazy role and many would say why Bipasha has done it, but I like it so I do it."

What does Bipasha Basu have to say about her blockbuster hit All the Best? Well, she is happy for sure. She had said before the movie's release. "It brought the No Entry taste back to me. All the Best reminded me of No Entry. We laughed all the time. My character in All the Best is of Jhanvi who is married to Ajay Devgan, it's fun to work with Ajay and he is a fantastic actor," Bipasha said.

The actress who is very conscious of her figure in her real life played a woman who runs a gym which is in bad shape."Although she is the most sane person in the film Jhanvi runs a dilapidated gym. Frankly, I would never join a gym like that," the actress joked.

Coming to Pankh, Bipasha Basu has looked never as hot, as she does in this film. The girl will be mouthing some cuss words as well and will be doing some bold scenes. So set your wings to flights of fancy in Pankh!
