3 Idiots Credit Issue: Bollywood Trends Views

We have read about Chetan Bhagat version on 3 Idiots controversy about how he has felt shortchanged due to him not getting credit properly in 3 Idiots. We have also read director Raju Hirani's version that the Chetan Bhagat is lying and that 3 Idiots is just 5 percent of Five Point Someone. Here is Bollywood Trends take on the 3 Idiots Controversy

1. Even if you put 3 percent of the novel in your film, you should give the author credit. Also, let us not forget that the background of the 3 boys is the same in Five Point Someone as it is in 3 Idiots

2. Danny Boyle the director of Slumdog Millionaire was gracious enough to credit Vikas Swaroop properly even though his book Q&A and the movie had a lot of difference. But still since the Q&A was the basis of Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle did give the author prominent credit

3. At any point of time, Chetan Bhagat never blamed the three, Aamir Khan or the makers. Chetan in fact, had made it very clear that it has nothing to do with Aamir Khan. He just voiced his displeasure in the blog, everyone has the right to talk the way they want, in a blog. After all what does a blog mean? The makers surprisingly became defensive and made allegations. Chetan Bhagat never said that he wanted to usurp the writer of the film Abhijat Joshi to be denied credit. He was saying he wanted more prominence for his name with an 'adapted by' as a credit.

4. Also, Chetan Bhagat has got Rs. 10 lakhs for the adaptation, which is quite low for an author of his stature. This for a writer who is supposed to be the best author in India. So what do you think about other not so famous or influential writers who write for films and are denied credit? These days hair stylists and makeup men are able to get that much. So where does an author or a writer stand? Go figure

5. Would 3 Idiots been made if there was no Five Point Someone?
