Aamir Khan's interview given to Koel Puri in headlines today revealed Aamir Khan's future plans. Here are the excerpts:
Are we seeing you as you after a long time and not as a character?
I've forgotten what is me physically because I've changed myself all along for different films even the way I look, my hair and all that. I am not quite sure what is me now any more. I mean not as a person just physically... am I the big hulk of Ghajini? Or am I the boyish guy? Physically I don't know what I am, there's been no constant for me.
You've had successful films in the recent past and you've had two of the biggest blockbusters ever, then you've taken a sabbatical. What is this period about?
The reason I've taken a sabbatical is one, I do have enough work on my plate (as a producer). I've been working for so many years over two decades. I feel I need to stop for a minute. There are so many things I want to do that I'm unable to do, such as I want to learn cooking from my mum.
What about being in love and married to a much younger woman?
I am 45 and Kiran is 37.
Oh, not that much younger, but she's got this vivacious young feel.
Ya. I am hoping I am young too. She has a really positive energy which I feel has helped me a lot as well.
Have you changed being with her?
I think I have. I grew up in a very conservative household as a very responsible guy and being very straight and upright about things. I think her energy helped me loosen up a bit.
There is also something that has happened with you and during the release of My Name is Khan. You stood up and spoke against Chief Minister Modi, and no one supported you and the same thing happened with Shah Rukh. Do you think this industry will ever become a fraternity?
No I don't think that's accurate. I think there was a lot of support for both me and for Shah Rukh.
You didn't come out and say anything.
Well actually I didn't. My father had passed away and I was not part of public life at all at that part of time. So that is the reason I didn't come out and speak out in public, but what probably people don't know is that I made phone calls to each and every exhibition house. I spoke to each of the theatre chains and said, you know this is something you should do.
And this was on Shah Rukh's behest?
No. Shah Rukh has no idea I have done this. Karan doesn't know I have done this. And I did it not because of Shah Rukh and Karan but because this was the right thing to do. Not just for the industry, but for life, you know. I feel that no one should threaten anyone. This is a democracy and the rule of law should prevail
