Shahrukh Khan's Top Performances without Overacting

Shahrukh Khan has been associated with trademark SRK performance and gestures: read: lip quivering, nostril flaring, hamming, forehead frowning, raise eyebrows, brushing his hand through the hair, extending both hands in the air, typical way of delivering dialogues, the works...
Some call the above overacting, some call it typical SRK performance, but then Shahrukh Khan has shown that he is capable of effortless and effective performance without doing any of the gestures mentioned in the first paragraph. The movies where Shahrukh Khan was totally unshahrukh were Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Dil Se, Swades, Chak De India, and yes, My Name is Khan. Check out more on Shahrukh Khan's career best performance.
Shahrukh Khan's Best Performance My Name is Khan

Shahrukh Khan's career best performance is in My Name is Khan. Period. Yep, Shahrukh Khan has the habit of giving illustrious performance in such ways that you feel that this is it, he has given his best. But he surprises you. Though some feel that SRK has a certain set of expressions only, he laid all of these speculations to rest when Shahrukh Khan gave his then best performance, without going the trademark SRK way, in Swades.
According to Bollywood Trends, SRK has given his 'best' performances in Baazigar(1993), Dilwale Dulhaiya Le Jayenge(1995), Devdas(2000), Kal Ho Na Ho(2003) Swades (2004) and of course, Shahrukh Khan's personal favorite, Kabhi Haa Kabhi Naa(1994). But it seems that SRK's best performance in My Name is Khan will be the pick of the lot.
By the looks of how the movie is being made and how Shahrukh Khan has given his 100 percent in the film, it is by no means, just another performance. Director Karan Johar has said that Shahrukh Khan was in the character of the role of Rizwan, even at home. He plays an autistic man in the film.
Karan johar said “It’s true Shah Rukh remained in character as Rizwan Khan even at home. At home in his body language he’s always Rizwan. I see him doing it all the time. I don’t think he has got out of it. Even when he’s with his children at home.”
There is also a funny incident where Shahrukh Khan was in the water for the better part of two days, making his skin look shriveled. The team united teased SRK as Mr. Mermaid. Yep, if Shahrukh Khan's performance is the best in My Name is Khan, the other perfectionist Hrithik Roshan will give him tough competition in Kites and Guzaarish.
Also Farhan Akhtar has believably come up with outstanding perforamance in Karthik Calling Karthik. Expect some fireworks in 2010. Check out the best Bollywood Actors 2010 prediction
SRK wears Gauri's ring for My Name is Khan

Trust Shahrukh Khan to be the role model of people in many ways. Still head over heels in love with wife Gauri, SRk has worn the ring of his wife Gauri in the film My Name is Khan. He could have gone for any designer ring but he preferred to wear Gauri's ring that was given to him on his weding. SRK considers Gauri to be very auspicious.
Even the watch that Rizwan Khan wears in the film is a vintage watch of 1920s taken from the museum of the company that Shah Rukh Khan endorses. King Khan was ethical enough not to wear any other brand in the film and asked for a 1920’s piece from them, and they were gracious enough to supply it for the shooting purposes.
My Name is Khan is Karan Johar's Most Expensive Film: SRK
7:50 AM
starwin

This is the first film Red Chillies is co-producing with Dharma. Any particular reason?
My Name is Khan (MNK) is an expensive film — actually, Karan does not make cheap films. There are two reasons we joined hands: one because I am of the opinion that when you make a film you should try not to pre-sell it, specially if it is a little. Second, I did not want Karan to take a loan for this film and also I wanted to own (even 50%) of a film which is called My Name is Khan! A film like an Om Shanti Om, can be pre-sold , as it is a regular commercial film. But films like say Chak De or MNK, require a freedom to be made with a free hand, without any commerce in mind.
Is My Name is Khan a viable project then?
My Name is Khan is the most expensive film Karan Johar and I have done. A 90-day shoot in the US done within SAG rules (US union rules) with a staff ratio of 60:40 works out at least 20-25 % more expensive. Add at least five to ten recces before the final 90-day schedule began and you know how expensive it can get.
Commercially, of course, it is not a very viable film for the actor, director and actor-producer at this point, as we have not included our fees because then it would be too expensive. So we made it in just the money Fox Star gave us for it. But it’s our film and it’s special. Like the fantastic writer of ‘Iron Man’ Hawk Ostby told me, “Some work you do for business, some you do for love,” so this one is for love.
However, I don’t think the box-office will really be an issue. It will open up very well because this is a film which will work for the class — what we call the multiplex audience as well as the single-screen audience but not for very different reasons either. Actually, one can always give an outstandingly corporate answer as well. The business has worked for Karan and me because the greatest businesses are done in the greatest simplicity. I have never done so many tours for a film — I go to Indore and Lucknow over the next two days. I have done it for big cities but this film has an Islamic aspect so I want to go to the interiors and tell the Muslims to take a look at this part of the film which is part-Islamic. I want the message of the film to reach the largest number of audience. I truly believe that 90% of successful businesses are passion decisions-whatever number-crunching people do in boardrooms, thoughts and ideas and marketing, it is the idea which is the mainstay. And, therefore, no apprehensions . When film-making becomes only business it will make money, but it will not be mind-numbing anymore, it will not be breaking any paths. It has to be a passionate decision and also make some business sense.
Do you see the expense justified?
Absolutely. It was also necessary as MNKis largely a journey film, it needed to look interesting visually or it would just have been in a bus going to wherever. Even in terms of scale this is very different from what Karan has done before. There are no set havelis, no dancers, there is no big costume drama... it is just a story of one man travelling across the continent. So, for Karan to bring in scale in the vision: whether it was with helicopter shots, terrain shots or bike rides it was all necessary to the film. Of course, there were times when I told Karan that we could do a lot of what we did on VFX which would cut the cost, but Karan is not a believer in that. He is a more an on location kind of film-maker. But I am glad that Dharma and Red Chillies are doing MNK together.
You have the juggernaut might of Fox Star, Fox Searchlight and Fox for a huge strategic release across 65 countries, of which many markets are new, many have become opportunities because of your fan following. How does it help?
At a very minuscule level, I hope between Kajol, Karan and me we are able to open up at least two new markets and turn them into traditional markets for our films. Yes, of course, we are premiering at Abu Dhabi where I believe I have some fans as well as Berlin where we show at the film festival and, of course, Germany where we are doing some 50 prints! At this stage, all I want to ensure is that there are three things in my life I would never want to portray wrong — a disrespectful portrayal of a disability (I have been careless once, in Badshah where I portrayed a blind man in a comic way and I feel it was completely wrong in hindsight) or a religion and usage of language in a film.
How convincing is the film’s message?
There are two messages. One, you don’t have to be extraordinary to do extraordinary things. As a matter of fact, you can be less than ordinary. Like in the case of MNK, because the character is afflicted with a disorder — Aspergers. And you don’t have to do great things to become great. Just keep it simple, be true to the original idea and your final product, will be great. Secondly, I think there is an issue where Islam is concerned across the world. There is an image issue and it’s not whether Islam is wrong or right or bad or good. I think it is because a lot of Muslims have not explained what their religion stands for — so you need to send that message. I cannot blame someone for something that they do without understanding why they did it. So I need to explain to people that this wrong impression that you are getting is because of certain “in-your-face” activities of a few people who happen to be Muslims and it is not what Islam stands for.
The message of Islam is that there are only good people and bad people. It is such a simple idea. If you read the Koran you will know that this is what it is and you recognise it in other religions as well and the misinterpreted moments like Jihad and other few wrongly interpreted terminologies need to be explained in a nice and simple way. The film is not an image-building film for Islam but a message to say this is what Islam stands for which is goodness and humanity and all that is encased in the old Karan Johar belief that love conquers all. Like Karan says: If you see it from far it’s a sweet obstacle-ridden love story. You come up close and you realise that there are layers in it — of Islam, autism, disability , subtle racial discrimination
Aamir Khan Crying at Film Award Ceremony

This video may be a tad late, but check out Aamir Khan crying at an a Film Award ceremony. Aamir Khan and Film Award ceremonies are different concepts. But the brilliant actor has stated that he has great regard for Gollapudi Award Ceremony and Mangeshkar Awards. Find out why Aamir Khan does not like popular Film Award ceremonies.
Why Aamir Khan Dislikes Filmfare Awards and Other Popular Awards
6:31 AM

Aamir Khan has openly expressed his hatred towards Film awards and the fact that he does not like to go to Filmfare Awards and other movie awards. However, Aamir Khan has always attended unconventionally popular awards like Mangeshkar Awards and Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial award. He also attended the CNBC Outstanding Business Leader, where he received the award for Entertainment Business Leader. Aamir Khan recently won a Padma Bhushan for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.
Why does Aamir not go to Filmfare Awards and other awards? In fact, his aversion is so much that he does not give these award organizations the right to show clips of movies that are produced by him. Aamir had gone to the extent of suing Filmfare Awards for showing him holding the ‘Lady in Black’ trophy, to promote their awards
For the past four years, Aamir-mania is rocking Bollywood like never before. In 2006, Aamir Khan gave us the trend setting Rang De Basanti. In 2007, his directional debut Taare Zameen Par was a surprise blockbuster and became nearly everyone's favorite movie. In 2008, Aamir Khan gave us one of the biggest money-spinners ever in the form of Ghajni. Ghajini's record was better in 2009 by 3 Idiots, which is now, the biggest money-making Bollywood movie ever.
Aamir Khan had actually attended Filmfare Awards during his early days. But then, he felt short-changed when he didn't receive an award for Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar in 1992; the award had gone to Anil Kapoor for Beta. When Shahrukh Khan arrived on the scene, he won the best actor award for Baazigar(1993) and Aamir Khan's performance in Hain Rahe Pyaar Ke(1933) didn't win him an award. The toughest competition between Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan was in 1995 when Shahrukh Khan was loved by the nation for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Aamir Khan's loveable tapori act in Rangeela was praised to the skies. But that time too, Aamir Khan lost to Shahrukh Khan as DDLJ won him the Best Actor Award
After that Aamir Khan decided it was enough and stopped attending Filmfare Awards and other popular movie awards. Though he says, he has nothing against SRK, Aamir is not happy with the way awards are organized and the winner chosen in these functions. When asked about the selection procedure and authenticity of Indian Film awards, Aamir Khan says, “The fact is that I have no objections to film awards per se. I just feel that if I don't value a particular film award, then I won’t go attending it either. Apart from the national award, I don't see any other award ceremony that I should give value to. My personal experience about these award ceremonies is that I don't trust them. I have no faith in them so I would prefer to stay away.”

Suicide in Bollywood Films, Bollywood Sucide Films

3 Idiots was caught in the line of fire, for quite a few reasons like Chetan Bhagat credit controversy and the suicide issue in 3 Idiots. There were remarks that the movie had sparked off the recent bouts of suicide among students in various places, particularly in Mumbai.
In Rann, there is a suicide scene as well, where Sudeep's character is shown jumping off a high-rise building due to extreme panic and anguish.
Our question is should sucicides be shown in Bollywood films given the sensitive mindset of people? Do you think suicide scene in Rann and suicide scene in 3 Idiots could have been edited out or shown differently? Also, what about so many TV serials which show suicidal attempts?
Ishqiya Movie Review: Ishqiya Blow Hot Blow Cold
6:17 AM
starwin

Ishqiya is a story set in small town India, East Gorakkpur where small kids are trained to shoot guns, before being taught to wash their ablutions. It is a sensuous story of a widow with a scheming mind and two men who are on the run. Though the premise is good, the treatment is painfully slow. Though Vishal Bharadwaj movie may have relevance and authenticity in place, the slow pace of his films can make you take a much-needed nap in the theater
Story of Ishqiya:
Ishqiya begins with Krisha(Vidya Balan) who tells her husband Verma to surrender to the law and live a peaceful life. Verma actually belongs to the ‘sena’ an underground movement. This sense has dangerous men who train their kids from young age to flirt with weapons and kill people. Now after Krishna tells her husband to give up this life, there is a blast and he is believed to be dead.
Cut to two small-time crook, Babban and Khalujan (Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah respectively) who are on the run from their boss. They look for a place to hide and take refuge at their pal Verma’s home. When they come to know that Verma is no more and Krishna is the only one in the house, hormones run high. Both the men are attracted to the women, each in their own way. Though Khalujaan loves Krishna, she is seduced by Babban and they make love in his absence. For the sake of plot, there are other things like Krishna asking the two men to kidnap the rich guys who lead lavish lifestyles in the village. The kidnap almost goes bad due to Khalujaan’s frustration on seeing Babban having a physical relationship with his crush Krishna. The filmy climax has the dead man alive and the usual gun shots. The director signs of expecting us to choose the ending of our liking: Krishna, Babban and Khalujan may have a threesome or just go their separate ways
Plus points of Ishqiya:
1. The authenticity of Ishqiya has to be commended. Everything is apt from the cuss words to the Lux advertisement on the peeling walls in one of the scenes.
2. Multidimensional character of Vidya Balan: VIdya Balan’s character in Ishqia is one of the best multidimensional characters we have seen. She makes rotis for the people in the house, but at the same time, she has her carnal urges and wants sexual satisfaction. She may cry when hurt, but when pissed off, she will not think twice about killing you. She is rustic, she is scheming, she is raunchy, she is humble.
3. Chemistry between Vidya Balan and Arshad Warsi: Both Vidya Balan and Arshad Wari share great on-screen chemistry. The smooch scene ishqiya has to be the most steamiest, passionate kiss ever in Bollywood,
4. Payal Saluja gives a new meaning to sex-appeal making Vidya Balan look absolutely stunning and desirable in her village woman garb, draped in ordinary cotton saris.
5. The length of the film is taut which is quite good
Minus points of Ishqiya
1. Slow pace of the film. The movie has a sluggish pace and at times, you feel jaded
Performance in Ishqiya:
Ishqiya is Vidya Balan's best performance to date. She is very convincing and a pure fantasy material even in cotton saree, thank Payal Saluja for that. Yep, she acts beautifully as well. Arshad Warsi gets a plum role and performs so well that you feel that he can carry a movie on his own shoulders. Naseeruddin Shah needs no comment, he is just brilliant. Performances raise the bar of Ishqiya. Let us also give a word of appreciation to a short cameo for a girl with expessive eyes and naughty smile who flirts with Naseer in the bus. Watch the movie and you will know whom we are talking about.
In conclusion:
Ishqiya is good for people who like Vishal Bharadwaj films and wouldn’t mind a slow-paced film as long as authenticity is maintained.
Rann Movie Review: Rann(Run) for The Movie
9:49 PM
starwin

Ram Gopal Varma finally gets back his groove. This man may harp a lot about his horror movies and entertainers but though they fall like ninepins, his movies like Satya, Company, Sarkar and now, Rann have an ability to rise like Phoneix from the ashes.
Story of Rann
Rann is the story of two competing news channels, one going the quality way and the other quantity (read: putting skimpy dress on female weather reporters ). The righteous news channel India 24x7’s founder and headhoncho, Vijay Harshwardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan) has problems of falling TRPs and rival channels stealing its ideas. His foreign returned son Jay(Sudeep) wants to change all that and make India 24x7, the number one news channel in the world. He is willing to go any lengths to do this. Mohnish Behl is the opportunist boss of the rival news channel who has people who will leak information for him from India 24x7. Purab(Ritesh Deshmukh) is a journalist working for India 24x7, who gets messed up in the dirty politics of news channels. Paresh Rawal is the vile politican who exploits the media and creates news with the help of these butt licking news channels. However, his aim is to exploit India 24x7 to achieve his means to become the prime minister of the country. Despite its flaws, Rann has a fresh appeal and is sure to keep you hooked on.
Plus points of Rann
1. It is commendable for Ram Gopal Varma to take an absolutely relevant subject. This movie is sure to stir more angst among people and can be an eye-opener to people who take news for granted
2. The funny, spoofy sections where Rajpal Yadav does a take on several caricature news reporters and television hosts, may have been ‘over the top’ had we not known that such people do exist in various news channels
3. Ram Gopal Varma’s self deprecating humor is evident when he says that a director is going to make a movie on the recent blasts
4. The movie is a frank, uncompromising take on the news-business- political nexus
5. The effective speech of Amitabh Bachchan at the end of the film, where he sums up things very well.
Minus Points of Rann
1. One dimensional roles for all the actress. While Amitabh Bachchan’s wife in the film, Neena Kulkarni has a boring one-dimension role, Neetu Chandra is there to show lingerie and cleavage-thigh flaunting dresses. You can keep her dialogues on mute, you will not really miss out any important part. Gul Panag also doesn’t have much to do. The only woman who has something to do is Suchitra Krishnamoorthi; her role is similar to the cameo role played by a girl in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Corporate, the one who leaks important information from her company to the rival oen.
2. Sudeep uses a pretty down-market mobile for a person who is to be the big boss of the biggest media channel in India
3. Stupid camera angles. RGV, you can pull these stupid stunts off in a horror movie, which you use as tools to create fear. But in a scene, where two people are having a normal conversation, why are you creating a Tsunami effect?
4. Mohnish Bhel’s character is that of a smart son of a b*tch. Then why does he tell all the inside stuff of how a conspiracy was carried out to a rookie reporter Ritesh Deshmukh?
5. Why does Vijay Malik (Big B) release the most important information about the Khanna issue and bomb blasts without confirming with his team of reporters?
Best scenes of Rann
1. The climax scene where Amitabh Bachchan breaks down is good because of its dialogues. The line “previously, we had money as a medium and news as the aim, and now we have news as the medium and money as the aim’ is impactful
2. The missed call which Ritesh gives to Sudeep has its own thrilling moment
3. Rajpal Yadav provides great comic relief. It is a pleasure to watch him on the screen. The scene where Rajpal Yadav interview Paresh Rawal and then creates a hoopla and excitement over a mundane line like “meeta mehsoos ho raha hain” is fun
4. The small scene where a minister’s statement is chopped and shown three times for effect is very relevant.
5. The scene in which Mohnish Behl splits the beans to Ritesh is good but some lines could have been avoided
Best performances of Rann
Sudeep has the meatiest role in Rann, and he has performed brilliantly. His role has the dual shades of being schemy as well as panicking. He pulls both of this with elan. He manages to create an impact in every scene with his expressive eyes and body language. Sudeep’s role and character is the one to watch out for in the movie. You can draw parallels of his character with the one Kay Kay had in Sarkar.
Ritesh Deshmukh has an easy role and he speak-walks through it; his look is enough to create the serious persona. Amitabh Bachchan has a small role in the film and manages to leave his deft touch at the end. Paresh Rawal with his Karunanidhi specs is wonderful to watch
In conclusion: Rann is a good movie and worth your money, specially due to the relevancy factor.

On 26 January 2010, we saw the video of Mile Sur Mera Tumhara directed by Kailash Surendranath. The high profile Phir Mile Sur Mera Tumhara that has resurrected the famous national integration song of 1988 left a lot to be desired. Here are some things that could have been better in Mile Sur Mera Tumhara video:
1. Wonder why people like Sachin Tendulkar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata and Hrithik Roshan were not in the video. These greats are any day better and greater than the 'so called' youth icons like Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor who have a long way to go, to be even considered in the frame for Phir Mile Sur Mera Tumhara
2. Even if you do not take the second point in consideration, it is a direct insult to leave out the martyrs of 26/11. Even a fleeting glance of NSG commandos and people like Sandeep Unnikrishnan who gave his life for the country could have been kept in the video. Surely, he is a bigger Youth Icon than most of the people in the first point
3. Some parts of Phir Mile Sur Tumhara looked as if they were compromising in some areas. For isntance, both Shaan and Shreya Goshal looked to be in the same bus. Duh!

National Film Awards 2010 Scam
10:59 PM

Bollywood has taken maximum National Film Awards ever in the 52 National Film Awards 2010. Priyanka Chopra won the National Award for the Best Actress while Kangana Ranaut won the Best Supporting Actress award. Arjun Rampal won the Best Supporting Actor award for Rock On. Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye has won the Popular Film National Award while Rock On won the Best Hindi Film Award. The Bengali movie 'Antaheen' won the best film award for 2008.
For the last few years, we have seen the quality of National Film Awards getting diluted. When genuinely great performances and excellent films were awarded at a point of time, now we have ‘just another noteworthy performance’ also winning national awards. By that context don’t you think some great performances in the earlier time(five-six years back) were denied the awards. A movie like Wednesday gets Indira Gandhi Award for a debut film, but why not a major award? You cannot give an excuse of a ‘debut award’ if it was a really good film.
Media critic Sudhish Pachauri who is the part of the panel that gives these awards admitted that participants contacted him.
He said, “Participants should refrain from calling jury members.'' When asked to specify if he or his colleagues had been contacted to influence their decision, Pachauri said, ``I am saying this because we have been contacted.” He has definitely made many people volte-faced with this remark. Though there are always remarks that National Film Awards are influenced, this is the first time someone from the jury has spoken about this in public. There have been attempts to swing the jury on their side.
The National Film Awards itself is no stranger to controversy. For the NFA 2007, the names were leaked by a jury member a week before the actual announcement was supposed to take place.

Veer Movie Review: Veer Veers Towards Veer-Gathi
8:17 AM
starwin

Veer, one movie that Salman Khan has very high expectations from, has a predictable story and has little going for it, though it opens with a good premise. The story line is clichĂ©d and touches all bases from Gladiator to DDLJ, and somehow Veer veers to an unsatisfied ending. By the reaction of audience in the cinema, they liked the first half which was peppered with some fine lines and scenes, but it all went down in the second half to the extent that Veer limped to a hasty climax (just like Salman Khan’s limping leg in the first half)
Story of Veer
The story of Veer is based in colonial India and deals with a Rajputana tribe called Pindharis. They are people who live by the sword and would prefer death to dishonor. They have a weird dress sense (blamed it on designer Anna Singh to give some atrocious clothes to Salman Khan) too. Anyway the movie starts with promise, thanks to a large scale war happening resulting in the killing of many Pindharis, thanks to the king of Madhavgarh played by Jackie Shroff who cheated them by conspiring with the British. The reader of the Pindhari clan, Prithvi (Mithun Chakraborthy) in a fit of mad rage, cuts off the right arm of Jackie Shroff.
Years pass and Prithvi has a son who grows up as Veer(Salman Khan). He also develops into a blood thirsty person who wants to make a mincemeat of the Britishers. Mithun Chakrabothy also has another son Punya(Sohail Khan, as usual sidelined) too. The father decides to send both his son to Britain to get educated and learns what’s cooking in the minds of the Britisher. We see shades of Gaddar now as Salman Khan falls in love with the Indian ‘mem’ Yashodhara (Zarine Khan) who happens to be the daughter of Jackie Shroff (the king of Madhavgarh). Both the lovers know about this but Zarine Khan prefer to let her hormones take over and above her relationship with the father. Her brothers do not take to this kindly and when they come to know of Veer’s identity, they try to kill him, but they are killed eventually by the fierce and revenge hungry Veer.
Now back to India, Yashodhara assumes the throne of Madhavgara at the behest of her father. Veer decides that he will win over his lady love from the arms of her father(DDJL style), at the same thinking of how to avenge the lives of people who died years ago due to the treachery of the Madhavgarh king. There is a swayamvar held where Veer is injured, painful enough for the princess to shout ‘Veer’ giving a clear signal to her father that Veer is a pindhari. Though father is ferocious, it is too late because the Pindharis have laid siege on his kingdom. The Britishers with vested interests agree to give the pindharis Madhavgarh on the condition they can go to another place (where they hope to rule).
Though Veer is okay with it, her father does not agree to it, and he wants to finish it off with a fight. There is a stupid thing here where the father says that he would like to decide this with a fight with the son. They brandish their swords and slug at each other. On one hand, they strike each other and the next second, they wince at seeing blood flowing from each other's bodies. Make up your mind guys!! In the meanwhile, the Britishers manage to shoot them and the bullet hits our Veer. And then there is the mandatory fight, albeit a small one and Veer attains Veer-gati
Plus points of Veer
1. Salman Khan has always been the best part in all his hit films (apart from Hum Aapke Hain Kaun where Madhuri Dixit overshadowed him) and the best part in his flop films too. We do not know the status of Veer, but Salman Khan has given his whole and sole to the film. He manages to make even the silliest scenes work.
2. The sound and the grandeur of the cinema is majestic and the action scenes are brilliantly shot
Minus Points
1. Though the movie dwells majorly in romance, the ‘magic’ of romance is missing. The eye to eye contact is overdone and whenever there is a premise of a good romantic scene, the song ‘surili ankhiyon wale ‘ song comes in and spoils the mood. Though the song is good, you definitely do not want it to come 5 times, do you?
2. The director seems confused about how to end the film. The last two scenes including the climax showed the director’s lack of grip. Some scenes are over the top. One of the scenes where Salman Khan leaps like a superman from his horse onto a running train was not needed.
Best scenes of Veer
1. The scene where Veer gives a piece of his mind to the English teacher
2. The fight scene where Veer kills the brothers of Yashodara who tried to badly injure his brother
.
Performances in Veer
1. Salman Khan looks great and well-suited to the part. He does well and makes for just about 85 percent reason to watch the film. The voluptuous Zarine Khan (she aint ‘fat’rina as some bitchy Bollywood actress would say, she is curvy just the way Indian males would love) shows promise. For a debutante, she has given a decent performance. Her character needed to be fleshed out better too. And what’s that stupid pair of spectacles she is shown wearing in the end of the movie?Mithun Chakraborthy gets a good meaty role and does well. The rest are not worth talking about.
In conclusion:
A better romance and more thrilling fight scenes (even if it were hare brained cinema) would have made it a watchable fare.

Shahid Kapoor Eight Pack Abs, Body Building Tips
10:25 AM
starwin

If it is one thing eye-candy in Chance Pe Dance, it has to be Shahid Kapoor's six pack body and lean physique. Shahid Kapoor's physique and committed approach to body building has paid handsomely and the actor is looking hotter than ever.
Shahid Kapoor has this to say about his body-building, "I won’t recommend that guys try to maintain a six-pack or a eight-pack all through the year... because it is tough, believe me.’’ However, building the eight-pack was a challenge he loved. “I’m inherently drawn to fitness. For me working out is a lifestyle. When Vishal Bharadwaj suggested that I get a tough look for Kaminey and Ken Ghosh said I should try and get eight-pack abs for a song in Chance Pe Dance, I had a goal to work towards. Of course, Kaminey is different from Chance Pe Dance so I have a different body-type is both films.’’
Here is how Shahid Kapoor built his eight pack abs and a stunning physique:
For a year, Shahid changed his lifestyle completely. First he went completely low on sugar and gradually introduced himself to slow-acting carbohydrates. Oats and brown rice became a regular at his dining table. And he ate his six meals a day at intervals of two-and-a-half hours, religiously. “I also worked out extensively, despite grueling shooting schedules, even it meant hitting the gym at 2 am,’’ reveals the actor of his fitness fundas. His high-intensity workout was a combination of parkour and weights, plus cardio-circuit training.
Shahid Kapoor believes in changing his physicality for almost every film that he undertakes,. Here is a tip from Shahid Kapoor, the proud owner of 8 pack abs: “Maintaining a six-pack is tough. Instead, follow a regular fitness regime and make sure you stay in shape, rather than aim for a six-pack. The sacrifices required to make a body like the one I have in Chance Pe Dance are immense. I would rather eat healthy and stay fit than try to flaunt a dream body all the time.’’

Chance Pe Dance Movie Review: Predictable and Boring
7:37 AM
starwin
Chance Pe Dance is yet another story of a struggler who wants to achieve his dreams of being a Bollywood star. The plot is unimaginative, predicable and boring.
Story of Chance Pe Dance: Sameer(Shahid Kapoor) lives in a one room apartment, doing part-time modeling for ads, hoping for the big break. He goes for auditions after auditions but he doesn’t success. One such audition brings him to a dancer-choreographer Tina (Genelia D’Souza). He goes into a pub with his fair-weather friend and grooves as usual in the pub, only to catchy the fancy of a director (Mohnish Behl) who promises to cast him as a main lead star. But when good things happen so early in the film, you know something wrong should happen. And it does, Sameer comes to know that he is longer in the movie and the director had changed his stance under pressure from corporates (Bindaas Channel?) and are looking for a nationwide hunt instead. Meanwhile Shahid Kapoor is thrown out of his home, deceived by his friend, and he decides to pass the rest of his time till he gets a break in a car. He manages to get a job when he teaches dancing to school kids. Genelia convinces Shahid to join the nationwide dance competition and you don’t have to be a genius to figure out that he wins in the end
Plus points of the film: The very first scene of the film is best and surprising the quality of the movie begins to decline after every passing reel
Shahid and Genelia D’Souza did show sparks of good chemistry in the film, which has not been utilized well by director Ken Ghosh.
Minus points of Chance Pe Dance:
1. There is no real struggle as such, somehow you cannot connect with the hurdles that the protagonist is facing
2. There is heavy advertising in the movie and it looks like as if the movie is a commercial for Bindaas entertainment channel. No point for guessing that the movie will be aired on Bindaas Channel in the future
3. You cannot connect with Shahid as a struggler, because he looks like a superstar right from the first frame; you simple don’t get that feeling of rawness. Certainly with all that vada pao, you cannot get perfect abs
4. The climax is a given. There is no competition, he just goes in does the thing and becomes the next big thing. No struggle, no hurdle…nothing. It doent look that Sameer’s stardom was hard-earned
5. Though the dance sequences are well-choreographer, Adnan Sami’s dismal music score pulls them down. Just like last year, we had a musical film without even one piece of good music (read London Dreams), this year we have a dance film without even one good dance track.
6. There is one stupid hurdle or conflict putting in the movie just for namesake. Just when Mr.Starry Eyes is going to enter the finals, his father’s shop is burnt down and he has to go back to his town. In the next reel, his father watches his son’s audition program and TV commercial, and gives his permission to go back to the competition
Best Scenes of Chance Pe Dance
1. The scene just before the interval when Shahid Kapoor breaks down because of a raw deal given to him
2. The first scene of the film which shows him ironing a sandwich and the works
Final words:
Jiah Khan who was reportedly shown the door can thank her stars she is not a part of Chance Pe Dance.

Bollywood Best Actors 2010 Prediction
5:20 AM
starwin

2010 should be a promising year for Bollywood with some great films lined up. Though 2009 was a damp squib and we didn't see many actors like Mallika Sherawat, Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan, we will see almost all of them this time.
By a fair analysis, Bollywood Trends feel that Guzaarish, Kites, Action Replay, Houseful, Raavan, Love 1800 will be among the big Bollywood hits of 2010. But since this post is about actors, lets predict their status right away
2010 will be the year of great, awesome performance, where one will play an autistic patient (Shahrukh Khan), the other a paraplegic(Hrithik Roshan), yet another an intelligent Maths professor(Amitabh Bachchan in Teen Batti), someone a politician(Katrina Kaif in Raajneeti), another playing Sabrina Lal(Vidya Balan in No One Killed Jessica Lal) and yet another a dream role of a man growing to a little baby (Akshay Kumar in Action Replay)
Bollywood Best Actress Prediction 2010: Clearly 2010 will belong to Hrithik Roshan. This is one actor who has won an award every time has been nominated. The rate at which Hrithik Roshan is working hard for Guzaarish(directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali) has made it a hot property; he is giving his all for the role of a paraplegic. So, it should be interesting. Hrithik Roshan will also have the seductive Kites coming up which should be impressive with a brilliant director like Anurag Basu(Life in a Metro, Murder and Gangster) at the helm. 2008 belonged to Akshay Kumar who gave back to back hits, 2009 belonged to Ranbir Kapoor and 2010 should be Hrithik Roshan's best year so far
Expect a great performance by Shahrukh Khan in My Name is Khan who plays an autistic patient
Farhan Akhar reportedly went to self-imposed solitary confinement to get into the head of the character of Karthik in Karthik Calling Karthik. Apart from these three, we have the following actors who we predict will score very well in 2010:
Akshay Kumar has two films in 2010, Houseful directed by Sajid Khan and Action Replay(a performance oriented film) by Vipul Shah.
Ranbir Kapoor will act opposite Katrina Kaif in Raajneeti and will be seen opposite Priyanka Chopra in Anjaani Anjaani.
Amitabh Bachchan has two interesting roles as a media baron in Rann and that of a Maths professor in Teen Batti.
Salman Khan has reportedly worked very hard for Veer, so let's see how it shapes up.
Abhay Deol will be seen opposite Sonam Kapoor in Aisha and John Abraham will be opposite Palkhi in Love 1800.
Abhishek Bachchan has Raavaan and Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se in 2010.
Ajay Devgan will also have a fabulous 2010 with his presence in Golmaal 3, Athiti Tum Kab Jaoge, Tunpur ka Superhero and Raajneeti.
Saif Ali Khan has Agent Vinod (directed by Sriram Raghavan) and Race 2 coming up.
Imran Khan has 'I Hate Luv Storys' and Delly Belly coming up.
But what about Aamir Khan? What is he doing? Well, he should have a special appearance in Dhobighaat directed by his wife Kiran Rao.
Bollywood Best Actress Prediction 2010: Clearly 2010 should belong to Aishwarya Rai. Aishwarya Rai is going to have a rocking 2010. Her movie Raavana, directed by none other than Mani Rathnam should do good. If that is not all, she will be ending the year with a bang to by appearing in Guzaarish opposite Hrithik Roshan, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In between, Aishwarya Rai will be starring opposite Akshay Kumar who has more or less an author backed role in Action Replay.
Katrina Kaif will possibly give her career-best performance in Raajneeti directed by Prakash Jha. Kareena Kapoor will be seen in Race 2.
Vidya Balan has three movies to release by 2010 where she will possibly give her best: Ishqiya, Chenab Gandhi and No One Killed Jessica Lal.
Deepika Padukone will have a busy 2010 with some good movies in the form of Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Say, Karthik Calling Karthik and Houseful.
Kangana Ranaut should have the best year in 2010, in the form of Knockout, Kites and No Problem.
Sonam Kapoor's Bollywood projects for 2010 include Aisha and I Hate Luv Storys.
Genelia D' Souza will be in Chance Pe Dance, Hook Ya Crook and It's My Life which is a remake of her biggest South hit Bommarillu.
Priyanka Chopra has two films Pyaar Impossible and Anjaani Anjaani.
Last of all, Mallika Sherawat will be seen in the experimental movie Hissss, where she plays a half snake.
Bollywood Trends Pick for Best Bollywood Actors of 2010:
1. Hrithik Roshan for Guzaarish and Kites

2. Shahrukh Khan for My Name is Khan
We predict Hrithik Roshan to pick Filmfare and many awards for Guzaarish

Rizwan Khan(Shahrukh Khan) suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, an autistic disease that makes the victim lack empathy. Among many reasons to watch this film, the scintillating SRK-Kajol pairing that has never failed, seems to inspire fans the most.Last but not the least, it is a Karan Johar film (Release date:February 14)
• Teen Patti: Teen Patti, created by an all-women team behind the camera, has Amitabh Bachchan and Ben Kingsley at the helm. The movie is directed by Leena Yadav. The movie starts the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai and the fiery Neha Dhupia
• Kites: Kites, Hrithik Roshan’s first venture of 2010 has been widely awaited. It is the story of a salsa dancer who fals in love with his student. There is a thrilling twist in the romantic tale. The movie stars Barbara Mori and Kangana Ranaut.(Release date:: March 14)
• Raajneeti: Raajneeti, the modern version of Mahabharata has Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgan, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Nana Patekar in leading roles Katrina Kaif is supposedly playing the role of Sonia Gandhi, with the same get-up and accent. • Raavan: Raavan will have Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai together for the first time on the silver screen, post marriage. It is a political thriller directed by one of the finest directors in India, Mani Rathnam

• Hissss: Hissss brings back the sizzle-drizzle, Mallika Sherwat back. Hollywood collaborates with Bollywood to produce Hissss. Mallika plays a snake who is on the way to seek vengeance. An American visitor steps into the jungles of India and kills the female snake's mate which makes her seek revenge. Expect a lot of special effects in this flick. Apparently Mallika Sherwat who is dressed in a painfully heavy snake costume(she couldnt even go to the loo for 10 hours flat while shooting for this film) has no dialogue to mouth in the film.
• Dhobighaat: Dhobighaat is Aamir Khan's wife Kiran's directorial debut. Ace Khan-Aamir Khan has been roped in to play a prominent role in the film. The film also stars Prateik Babbar. The movie explores the underbelly of Mumbai.
• No Problem: Anees Bazmee directs No Problem, starring a good star cast comprising Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Akshaye Khan and Sushmita Sen. It is a slap-stick love story
• Guzaarish: Hrithik Roshan should come up with a winner for this one. Gujaarish is an English film directed by Sanjay Leela (the Hindi version should be dubbed). In this movie, Hrithik Roshan plays a radio-jockey who is a paraplegic. It is a tear-jerker exploring the dilemma of euthanasia. Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai star in this film.

Palkhi is the wife of the director, who has also scripted this film

A media man is trapped for hours in a phonebooth because of an unknown assassin who has trained his gun at him. Kangana Ranaut plays the role of a journalist and Sanjay Dutt is the assassin.
• Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Say: Ashutosh Gowariker, the man for history (literally) comes abck with Khelenge Jee Jaan Se, based on the Chittagong Uprising based on the book Do and Die by Manini Chatterjee. Five Point Somone or 3 Idiots: Which is better?
7:41 AM
starwin
We have heard about Five Point Someone being the basis of 3 Idiots and the 3 Idiots controversy. But which is better, Five Point Someone or 3 Idiots. Bollywood Trends readers please have your say on which is actually better:
Meanwhile, though 3 Idiots is a good movie, there are some scenes which are questionable
1. Kambakkht Ishq was criticized by the high-brow elite critics for having toilet humor in the form of a small fart scene, whereas there are too many toilet jokes and crude humor in 3 Idiots. Were they needed?
2. The laughable 'Chamatkar Balatkaar' scene is slapstick funny no doubt, but we doubt whether people would have thought it to be 'classy' if it was in a Priyadarshan or David Dhawan movie.
3. Raj Kumar Hirani is getting repetitive and his style of film making is getting cliched. There are similar ragging scenes in both Munnabhai MBBS and 3 Idiots. The scene where Rancho says he wants to give a demo to Pia(Kareena Kapoor) about his stupid fiancĂ© is quite similar to Sanjay Dutt in Lage Raho Munnabhai asking girl to do a ‘demo’ on the ideal man of her dreams. He says that if the man whistles to the waiter, he is not worth being a life partner. Parallel are there, for sure. In all three movies, Munnabhai MBBS, Lagey Raho Munnabhai or 3 Idiots there is a common element of a person who wants to 'melt the heart of the other person with love and affection'. I would rather appreciate Mani Rathnam whose Anjali was so different from Bombay and whose Velu Nayakan was much different from Guru.
That apart, in isolation, 3 Idiots is a good movie but it is definitely comparable with Hirani's other two ventures, which were far better.

3 Idiots Credit Issue: Bollywood Trends Views

We have read about Chetan Bhagat version on 3 Idiots controversy about how he has felt shortchanged due to him not getting credit properly in 3 Idiots. We have also read director Raju Hirani's version that the Chetan Bhagat is lying and that 3 Idiots is just 5 percent of Five Point Someone. Here is Bollywood Trends take on the 3 Idiots Controversy
1. Even if you put 3 percent of the novel in your film, you should give the author credit. Also, let us not forget that the background of the 3 boys is the same in Five Point Someone as it is in 3 Idiots
2. Danny Boyle the director of Slumdog Millionaire was gracious enough to credit Vikas Swaroop properly even though his book Q&A and the movie had a lot of difference. But still since the Q&A was the basis of Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle did give the author prominent credit
3. At any point of time, Chetan Bhagat never blamed the three, Aamir Khan or the makers. Chetan in fact, had made it very clear that it has nothing to do with Aamir Khan. He just voiced his displeasure in the blog, everyone has the right to talk the way they want, in a blog. After all what does a blog mean? The makers surprisingly became defensive and made allegations. Chetan Bhagat never said that he wanted to usurp the writer of the film Abhijat Joshi to be denied credit. He was saying he wanted more prominence for his name with an 'adapted by' as a credit.
4. Also, Chetan Bhagat has got Rs. 10 lakhs for the adaptation, which is quite low for an author of his stature. This for a writer who is supposed to be the best author in India. So what do you think about other not so famous or influential writers who write for films and are denied credit? These days hair stylists and makeup men are able to get that much. So where does an author or a writer stand? Go figure
5. Would 3 Idiots been made if there was no Five Point Someone?
Raj Kumar Hirani says Chetan Bhagat is lying

Seems like 3 Idiots has a raging as well as a ragging controversy. More on the second one later.
Raj Kumar Hirani, director of 3 Idiots has accused author Chetan Bhagat saying that he has lied despite adhere to many conditions, including the rolling credit in the contract. Raj Kumar Hirani also says that the film's script was approved by Bhagat and that he agreed to the clause that the movie would be different fro the book.
Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Raj Kumar Hirani displayed the contract signed with Bhagat. The director added that he had made a 4 hour narration of the 3 Idiots script to the author. Chetan Bhagat had said in his version that the script was never shown to him.
"We never denied Bhagat the credit. I am confused as to why is he saying all these things after the film's release. We have not stolen the story, we have purchased the rights of the book and can modify or change it as per our requirements. There is nothing illegal in it. Chetan is lying. " book is not more than five per cent in the film," he said, adding that Bhagat had been paid his dues by Chopra even before the release of the film. Hirani said.
"His name appears immediately after the main cast in the rolling credits. If he wanted to see his name in opening part of the film, he should have asked us after reading the contract itself. I am a writer and I respect writers," Hirani concluded.
Reacting to Hirani's statement, Chetan Bhagat accused the film-makers of abusing the contract.
"They abused the contract and thought that they can hide the credit. They made a new credit that is of story, which gives the wrong impression that the original story was written by Abhijat and Hirani but it is my story they adapted from. "They should have mentioned novel's name in 'Adapted By' or they should have mentioned my name in the story credit," Bhagat said.
Now about the ragging controversy, 3 Idiots has been criticized by CURE(Coalition to Uproot Ragging from Education) an NGO, stating that 3 Idiots promoted ragging which is illegal in the country. But the regional officer of the censor board stated that ragging has not been glorified because Aamir han fights back in the movie. The spokesman for 3 Idiots said that the scene shows how Rancho, the main protagonist teaches the students a lesson and does not give in to ragging.

Here are the similarities of 3 Idiots and Five Point Someone:
- The biggest similarity between 3 Idiots and Five Point Someone is Alok(Raju’s character) which is very similar to that of the movie. The background of Raj(Sharman Joshi)’s house with invalid father and poor mother with a sister of marriageable age and Maruti car as dowry. Everything ditto
- The open ragging scene is similar but the treatment is different: In Five Point Someone, a coke bottle is about to be shoved behind Alok(Raju) and Farhan(Hari) till Ryan rescues them. But in the movie, there is the scene in which the collegians have to strip and dance.
- The Paper Stealing Scene: In Five Point Someone, Alok jumps out of the insti roof because they are caught stealing papers. In 3 Idiots, Raju jumps out of the roof because Professor Virus tells him that he will be expelled from college, if he does not admit that Rancho and Farhan are responsible for his(Virus') housebreak. In 3 Idiots, Rancho and Farhan steal papers only to help Alok who has broken his legs. But the paper stealing scene is there
- Venkat((Chatur Ramalingam) the studios guy for whom Alok leaves his friends so that he could get good grades is there in 3 Idiots as well. Alok comes back to his friends leaving Chatur when Ryan helps his invalid dad. In 3 Idiots, Rancho and Pia take the dad to the hospital.
- Neha explains to her dad Cherian how her own brother committed suicide due to unrealistic expectation set by her father. The book delves in depth about Cherian’s regret for his over expectation but the movie has just one scene where Pia tells her dad about her brother’s suicide.
Three dialogues similar in 3 Idiots and Five Point Someone:
1. The examiner looked at me as if I had asked for his kidneys
2. I am not drawing the line, I am making it for a change
Here are the scenes that are different in 3 Idiots, which dint feature in Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone
1. The suicide scene in the earlier part of the movie
2. Pia’s sister Mona has a full fledged role in the movie, there is no such thing in the book Five Point Someone.
3. The scenes where Rancho gives a demo everytime to make Pia understand her fiancĂ© doesn’t love her, does not feature in the book
4. Mona’s in labor scene is not there in the book
5. Chatur Ramalingam’s chamatkar balaatkar scene is not in the book
6. The twist before the interval of Javed Jafferi in the movie is not there in the book
7. The climax where Omi says that he has a meeting with a Japanese scientist does not feature anywhere in the book. In fact, the movie has lots to talk about whereas the book ends with Cherian’s admission that he was responsible for his son’s suicide. This is mentioned fleetingly I the movie
8. The vanishing act of Rancho is never there in the book
So readers, now you decide who should get the credit for 3 Idiots, Chetan Bhagat or the script writer Abhijat Joshi?
