Vidya Balan on No One Killed Jessica, Isqiya, Dirty Picture and Paa

Here is an interview of Vidya Balan, where she talks about varous things include her movies  Jessica, Isqiya, Dirty Picture and Paa.  (Source: HTC)

Your last two films, Paa and Ishqiya, were intense and emotional. One would have expected you to take a welcome break with a light entertainer instead of jumping into another exhausting film, No One Killed Jessica.
I don't find it a strain. In fact, I enjoy playing such women of substance. In the past, such roles were an aberration. We didn't see too many woman-centric films like Mother India that showcased her heroic strength.
We still have the formulaic films with the typical hero and heroine but we also have films that are not so much about the man or the woman but about characters. You no longer have to play a Jhansi ki Rani to make yourself heard.
You can be a Krishna (Ishqiya) too who is strong, romantic, vulnerable, sensual, violent when the need arises... And real. She sleeps with a man who is not her husband and is unapologetic about it.
Perhaps that's the reason these roles don't suffocate me. I don't feel the need to break away and breathe.
I'd love to do a comedy some day, but at the same time, I'm quite happy playing a spunky woman who knows and speaks her mind.

Have you met Sabrina Lall?
No, I haven't. The director (Raj Kumar Gupta ) was clear he didn't want me interacting with her till No One Killed Jessica was over.
I'm not denying that our film is based on the Jessica Lall murder case but at the same time, we have fictionalised facts. Cinema as a medium gives us the licence to do that. Our film is not a bio-pic, it's a thriller and offers the director's own take on events that we have been reading about down the years.
Given that your character is inspired by Sabrina, how then did you flesh her out?
The facts are all there for us to read.
There's enough matter on the Internet. And I've followed the case closely since I took on the film.
We've created a character who has grit, guts and will-power. These are the qualities I admired in Sabrina too.
She's been the driving force in the case and it couldn't have been easy for her. But she refused to give up.
She wasn't just fighting for a cause, she was fighting for a sister she had lost.
What was your reaction to Manu Sharma's conviction?
As a citizen, it reaffirmed my faith in the Indian judicial system. We may live in a democracy but the buck eventually stops with us. That's why instead of perennially blaming the system, we need to participate in the process and bring about the change ourselves. This case has taught me that. We have to be the change we want to see in the world.
As Paa ki maa, you have bagged several awards. What made the role memorable?
What I liked about this Vidya is that she is not ashamed to have a child out of wedlock. If she is unsure initially, it's because she has three years of medical college left and doesn't know if she can train to be a doctor and be a mother at the same time till her mother reaches out a helping hand. The other day someone was telling me that the women at his workplace were fantastic at their job but they brought their husband, children and in-laws' problems along with them. And I told him that that it is this emotionality that is our strength, that makes us what we are.
Earlier, you couldn't be an efficient professional and a caring lover at the same time. You couldn't be a businessman and a loving mother simultaneously. You couldn't even be a good lover if you held a job.
I remember Amrita Singh as a tycoon in a film. She was all head and no heart. She was portrayed as an asexual being. Thank God times are changing, our cinema is changing. The success of Paa proved that a woman could be a doctor and at the same time someone with desires and plenty of love for a sick child.
Do you see a connection between the characters you played in Paa, Ishqiya and No One Killed Jessica?
They are all individuals in their own right, who hold the reins of their lives in their own hands. They make their choices and stand by them.
That's the defining streak.
There was a time when you were willing to mould yourself into a commercial heroine. That no longer seems true.
Paa was not your quintessential Hindi film yet it made more money than your run-true-to-formula film.
And it liberated me.
Now I no longer have to adhere to a particular image or do a certain kind of film for commercial success.
Today, with the audience becoming more astute, you can't just insert a song-and-a-dance into the plot because it's the done thing. You have to justify its inclusion.
I've been told that with my last couple of films, I've come into my own. I'm certainly happy with the kind of work I'm getting and doing.
The opportunities presented with are phenomenal and they will only get better.
The effort always is to do some- thing challenging and so, fulfilling.
And you don't need to make any compromises because there's no guarantee that only a certain kind of cinema will succeed at the box office. That realisation has given me the power to do the kind of work I enjoy.
Buzz is that you have signed Sujoy Ghosh's next film in which you are the hero, heroine and everything else wrapped in one?
That's one project under strong consideration. It's an interesting idea, since it's the only character. That takes care of the competition.

Raavan Music Review: Rahman Rocks Again

When you have the masters A.R.Rahman, Gulzar and Mani Rathnam coming together, you expect magic. Rahman and Mani Rathnam have together given us Roja, Bombay, Dil Se and Guru. It would thus be sacrilege to something that is short of excellent. So let us know look at one of the most anticipated music albums of 2010, Raavan. Here is the Raavan music review:

Beera Beera: Raavan’s music opens with the funky tribal song ‘Beera Beera’ which happens to be the introductory song of the album. Though this song is something that suits Sukwinder Singh, Rahman does something and experiments with Kirthi Sagathia and Vijay Prakash. The orchestra is massive, the lyrics bang-on and the rendition by both the singers is commendable.

Behne De: Behne De has the classic A R Rahman touch written all over it. A beautiful mix of different mellifluous sounds, Behne De stands out as a lyrical ode to the flow of life. Enough for you to say ‘hey, this is my song’. Gulzar wows you with his lyrics.

Thok De Dilli: For the ones who get on Rahman’s catchy numbers, Thok De Dilli is amazing, spirited song. Gulzar’s lyrics is an absolute marvel. The fast paced song has high orchestration.

Ranjha Ranjha: Ranjha Ranjha is one of the most beautiful songs of the album. There is a definite Taal appeal in the song. The song sun by the trio of Rekha Bharadwaj, Javed Ali and Anuradha Sriram is amazing and should be a chartbuster.

Khilli Re: Khilli Re sung by Reena Bharadwaj looks to be a situational song with good poetic appeal. It is soothing and balances the album that is high on orchestration.

Kata Kata: Kata Kaa sung by sees Ila Arun, Sapna Awasthi and Kunal Ganjawala is a tribute to Rukhmani Rukhmani’ (Roja). Though the song is nowhere similar to the Roja blockbuster, Kata Kata has the same appeal about a man getting married and his friends teasing him about the last night of bachelorhood. Again high on orchestration and vociferous rendition.

Overall
Raavan meets your expectation of a fabulous Rahman score. Some of the songs may take time to grow on you as do an average Rahman song. The most brilliant songs of the album include ‘Beera Beera’, ‘Ranjha Ranjha’, ‘Thok De Dilli; and Behne De’

Ram Gopal Varma or Karan Johar: Better Director Is

Who is a better director-Karan Johar or Ram Gopal Varma? Both of them are calling potshots at each other. While Ram Gopal Varma has spoofed Karan Johar in many of his films,Karan Johar has also hit back at RGV with his trademark humor. “I don’t hate RGV. Hate is too strong an emotion to waste on anyone. I regard some of his work and I am indifferent to others. He’s no friend of mine and will never be.”

But the controversy of Karan Johar vs Ram Gopal Varma attained new heights before and during Phoonk 2’s release. Karan Johar had said during the DVD launch of My Name is Khan, “I have heard that Ram Gopal Varma said that the scariest movie he has ever watched is (my) Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. I have not seen Phoonk or Phoonk 2, and I hope Phoonk 3 never gets made.”

Ram Gopal Varma replied back with,“I’ve completed scripting Phoonk 3 and I’m planning to approach Karan Johar to act opposite the crow.”

Karan Johar wrote on Ram Gopal Varma on Twitter, “Early morning dreams come true? I dreamt I was watching Phoonk 2 and holding RGV’s hand in fear. Is this possible?”
To this, Varma tweeted, “Well, I don’t know about Phoonk 2, but I’m scared of the Karan Johar hand holding part.” Johar then shot back, “It’s true.”

Shaapit or Phoonk 2, which is a better horror film?

Both Shaapit and Phoonk 2 have released and both of them were watched by people who like horror films.

Vikram Bhatt, who has directed Shaapit has said that the Phoonk 2 Challenge of asking a person to watch the movie alone in a theater does not really prove the horror element, because according to him the true test of horror film lies in actually scaring a crowdful of theater. Director of Phoonk 2 states that the true test of horror film is in making a person watch it alone because when he or she is in company, they will pretend to laugh and dismiss it as a funny thing to conceal their real emotion.

Prince 2, Prince Sequel On Its Way

The runaway success of Prince has surprised even Vivek Oberoi. Director Kookie Gulati, who is mighty pleased that his labor has borne fruit has got approval by Ramesh Taurani, produer of Tips to go ahead with Prince 2. In Prince 2, Vivek Oberoi will have big mainstream heroines and names like Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen are being thrown. Possibly, Nandana Sen will be there in the sequel because her character was shown alive in the very last minute.

Though Prince has been appreciated for its style and action, the fact that it has a very thin script didn’t make it endearing to people who look for substance. Kookie says that he will definitely come with better content for Prince 2. A person from the project of Prince says, “When we approached the top leading ladies they all either said a straight no nor or begged off with the date excuse. They had no faith in the project. More importantly no top leading lady wanted to work with Vivek. On the day after Prince opened Vivek began to receive congratulatory SMS's from some of the leading ladies who had declined to work with him in Prince."

Vivek Oberoi confirms this point as well, "I wouldn't like to dwell on the past. All is good now. And I'd just like to concentrate on the positive things. Yes, we are making a sequel. In fact when we put in a suggestion of it in the first film we had finally decided to edit it out because it was vain at that point of time to think audiences would like our film enough to see a sequel."

Hurricane Scenes Not There in My Name is Khan’s US version

Though My Name is Khan has been a huge overseas hit, back in India many felt that the hurricane scene was not proper. It had chronological error and some people felt that a person with an instable mind cannot rescue people in a hurricane infested village. Whatever reasons people may have, Karan Johar has decided to part with that scene. In other words, the Hurricane scene is not there in My Name is Khan’s US version that releases on May 7,2010.

The editing of US My Name is Khan is by Alan Edward Bell and not Karan Johar. The Indian director feels someone from a third person’s perspective will be able to do a better job. Alan Edward Bell has been the editor of 500 Days of Summer. By the way did you know that the hurricane scene in My Name is Khan was not shot in Wilhelmina, Georgia but in Mumbai?

Neil Nitin Mukesh Beats Aamir Khan in Perfectionism (Or is it Madness?)

On the first look, you may think that is a hype created by the producers of Lafangey Pandey, but it is true. Neil Nitin Mukesh has real lacerations, real wounds and real bruises in Lafangey Pandey. His character has to slug it out and fight real with people on the streets and both the director Pradeep Sarkar and Neil are very happy about making it so real that it hurts.

Looking visibly in pain, Neil says, “Pradeep Sarkar's film. It requires the rawest of physical violence and it can't be faked. So if you see me now I'm covered with welters, wounds and bruises all gifted to me every day while shooting this, the most dangerous film of my career." He adds, “ I don’t need my makeup man Aseembhai to put fake blood on me. My stunt director Shyam Kaushalji is doing a very good job of making my bruises and lacerations look real...because they are real.” Shyam Kaushalji whom Neil idolizes is the guy who puts Neil through death defying stunts, wherein he had to run across the street with speeding cars in New York and he had jumped off the 18th floor in Aa Dekhen Zara.

Lafangey Pandey is the story of bike gangs in Mumbai and the movie needs serious, street fights accoriding to the actor. He says, "Fortunately I'm not a stranger to these kind of raw gutter-level combats. I may come across as soft spoken now. But I've gone through my share of campus fights during my college days. In fact I've a fierce temper problem. So far I had kept it in check. But now in Lafangey Parindey I'm disturbed to see the violent ill-tempered side of me emerging effortlessly. What surprises me is the deep dark angry side to Dada's (director Pradeep Sarkar) personality. Who would have thought the man who made Parineeta and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag had so much anger and violence in him?”

Phoonk 2 Movie Review; Phoonk 2 better than Phoonk

Phoonk 2 movie review
Vikram Bhatt may be better than Ram Gopal Verma at horror but when it comes to Phoonk 2 vs Shaapit, Phoonk 2 is defintely the Bollywood horror movie of 2010 so far.

Story of Phoonk 2:
There is not much of a story in Phoonk 2, the movie just casually takes off from Phoonk 1 left. So it is just the 'Bhooth'ish thing of the family settling on the outskirts of the city. Sudeep, his wife Aarthi and their two kids find there is soething odd happening at their house. The two adventurous kids move to the lone beach and walk though the forest, till they find a doll. Once the dolls come to their place, the horror starts unfolding. There are chiling scenes that follow one after the other and a fair amount of blood and gore too. The horror part in Phoonk 2 picks up after the interval while the first half has the typical RGV builld-up of weird camera angles and blaring sound

Technical parts of Phoonk 2:
Director Milind Gadakar has done a very good job that could possibly surpass Phoonk work done by Ram Gopal Varma. The moving camera by by Lenhert Pereira (under Director of Photography Charles Meher), the accompanying creepy background score (Dharam and Sandeep) and the effective sound design (Jayesh Dhakan) contribute to a sense of impending doom on several occasions are very good

Plus points of Phoonk 2:
Do not go for the story part, in fact, you wouldnt really bother about it as one after the other horrific episodes unfold, some of them are cliched cinematic elements but with a good buildup and others are genuinely scary. It is a good thing that Phoonk 2 does not dwell much into the past and justification of horror and deals in the present

Minus points of Phoonk 2:
The climax is longdrawn and the last parts could have been snipped. Also there are some glaring error, for instance in the climx, Sudeep's character is badly bruised, bleeding from chest, but in the next scene, the tshirt looks all fine. The first half has the same cliched buildup in the first half are no worth appreciating

Best scenes of Phoonk 2: The death scenes of Zakir Hussain, Jeeva and Neeru Bajwa are chilling

Performances in Phoonk 2: Everyone in the cast of Phoonk 2 has done a good job but the best one of the lot is Amruta Khanvilkar, she is the 'spirit' of the film.

Conclusion: Phoonk 2 is scarier, better than Phoonk, if that is what you want to know. As a movie, you will feel the jitters most of the time.

What do Bollywood Actors and Actress Do All Night?

Whoever said that you should sleep by 10 at night and get up by 6:30 am, may be shocked to see that it does not apply today's Bollywood fraternity. Shahrukh Khan's Twitter followers may have seen that he is the most active in the unearthly hours of 1am -3am and then plays computer games till 5 am!. So is Amitabh Bachchan who is busy bloggning well past mid-night.

As for Vidya Balan

the voluptous actress admits, “I’m very much a night bird. If you message or call me at night, I’ll promptly answer. But try doing this to me in the morning and you won’t even get a response.” She has a close friend in designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee whom she chats on the phone about what happened during the day. If that is not the case, she is busy reading.

Aamir Khan and Salman Khan are nocturnal creatures; Aamir visits Salman's Galaxy Apartments post 11:30 pm. The two then go to a pub (Aamir is off drinks) or ride bikes in pitch dark. By 4 am or so, Salman lands at Aamir's home and if Aamir's better half, Kiran Rao it home, they carry ou8t their antics at Salman's Galaxy Apartments.

Oscar winner A R Rahman in the 90s, had shocked Subhash Ghai years ago when he called him for a music sitting at 5 am. Now, the humble Rahman calls the shots, and he is known to entertain filmmakers post midnight. So the best of Bollywood — be it Mani Ratnam, Rakeysh OmPrakash Mehra, Ashutosh Gowariker or Aamir spend their nights flying to and fro Mumbai-Chennai when they want him to come up with award winning music.

Kareena Kapoor says, “Saif and I have to go for our coffees at night because it has become impossible for actors to move around normally during the day in Mumbai. There are hardly any private eating places left. It is easier to move around the five stars hotels late at night because they’re less crowded.” If Saif can't make it, Kareena gangs up with like Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu and Manish Malhotra at a local coffee shop at 1.30 am

Hrithik Roshan, who is Shahrukh khan's close friend, keeps up late at night because very often he and the band of boys including Arjun Rampal, Karan Johar, Uday Chopra and Sanjay Kapoor land up at Mannat for a night cap or watching a movie on SRK's fabulous home theatre.

Shahid Kapoor has meeetings with filmmakers at nights and Sanjay Dutt has never believed in sleeping before 5 am. When Sanju Baba is drinking, then he goes to bed at 5 am. If he is sober, he meets up with friends to watch IPL matches till midnight. And, he entertains them at his home, personally preparing dinner and wines for his guests.

What about sex? Dont these guys and girls have sex at night? Well, we are talking of abrnomal things that are done at night, like Tweeting and having cofee at night, and not sleeping and sex :(

Incidentally, two big stars do not agree to this stay active by night rule. Health freaks Rekha, Farhan Akhtar, Suniel Shetty and Akshay Kumar are off to bed by 10:30 and up by 5:30 or 6 am. Some of the actors actually read the day's Filmi news, the next day, before winding up for bed by 7 am.

Bollywood Breaks Family Bonds

Bollywood usually used to work like the US Mom and Pop store, where people from one Khandaan or family used to always promote each other. But that seems to be a dying tradition now

There are reports that a famous Bollywood actor and his younger actor who made a huge impression to the former's career are not in talking terms any more. Jeetendra and his younger brother Prasan Kapoor have parted ways. It is believed that Boney Kaoor and his famous actor brother Anil Kapoor have reportedly strayed apart. Though Boney says, "Anil and I will always be close,' industry sources that the two have parted ways financially as well.

Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor do not exactly share vibe. It is reported that when Shashi Kapoor, father figure to Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor, won the 'lifetime achievement award' in Filmfare Awards 2010, Neetu Kapoor, mother of Ranbir Kapoor, didnt want to give even a sound bye to the audio visual that was made on Shashi Kapoor. Shashi and Neetu were paired opposite each other in Deewar.

Cousins in Bollywood usually do not get along. Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are plain cordial to each other, couple of notches above cousins Riddhima, Ranbir and Karisma Kapoor who didn't acknowlede each other years ago . As for Babita Kapoor, she does not seem to know any other Kapoor apart from her daughters

Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol have showed no interest in doing something for the dwindling career of Esha Deol, their half-sister, leaving mama Hema Malini do everything. Tabu and aunt Shabana Azmi have nothing to do with each other. Rani Mukherjee has nothing to do with Kajol. There are reports that Naveed, an actor who wanted to get a break in Bollywood, went back because his aunt Rekha wasn't keen on helping him out.

Sanjay Dutt, the brother figure to most Bollywood actors, have outgrown his sister Namrata and Priya, due to differences in idealogies and family beliefs. Sanjay Dutt's daughter is still in good terms with her aunts.

It is a good assuring point to note that Shahid Kapoor is happy to tag his step-brother Ishaan to film shootings and parties, and is giving his full support for the teenager to make his mark. Similarly, Raj Babbar's kids Arya and Juhi Babbar are happy to be the side of their half-brother Prateik

Bollywood Changes Script to Suit US Audiences, Good or Bad?

In a bid to make the best of the lucrative market, read the US audiences, Rakesh Roshan and Karan johar have come with potential resolutions. The films will be made the way Indians like it, with songs, melodrama etc but for the foreign audiences, some of the scenes will be cut and reshot to pander to the sentiments of the US market

For instance, Rakesh Roshan’s Kites that is directed by Anurag Basu that releases on May 21, will have a 118 minute version for the Indian market and the NRI markets. But there will also be a shorter crisper version of Kites for 90 minutes, edited under the supervision of the director Brett Ratner of Rush Hour fame and targeted at mainstream US audiences. This shorter version will have one less osng, fewer dialogues, voices dubbed into US accented English

Karan Johar, happy with the phenomenal success of My Name is Khan in the overseas Indian market will now prepare the international version of My Name is KHAN. But do you think editing films and chopping runtime of their films to suit the US market is a good idea? We don’t think so, it is like apologizing for their films, unless of course, they are badly made. What do you think, guys?

Sayali Bhagat: Shoaib's Affair was a Publicity Stunt

Sayali Bhagat who was supposed to having relationship with Shoaib Malik, cricketer who is controversy about his marriage to Sania Mirza, the tennis star; has come up with a shocking piece of information saying that her(Sayali)'s affair with Shoaib was just for publicity.

Dont know who is actually seeking publicity here, Sayali who wants to stay in news since she is nowhere after her Train(2007) 'derailed' (Train was a step by step copy of Derailed). Now Sayali says to a popular tabolid, " I was not dating Shoaib. My first and last association with Shoaib was when we were offered a film together by Wilson Louis. However, the makers could not market the idea of Shoaib Malik as a leading man as he was a Pakistani cricketer. Meanwhile, 26/11 happened and that further ruined the chances of casting him. I live in Mumbai and had lost some of my friends in the Taj tragedy. I was shell-shocked and I mourned for the victims. I understand the sentiments of people and chose to step down and reject that film offer, as I did not want to jeopardise my name and career.”

When enquired whether she was girlfriend of the Pakistani cricketer, the actress quips, “Woh sab film ki marketing strategy thi. You know how the film industry works. Aren’t co-stars linked up to make the films a talking point? The production house of the film was successful in getting publicity for the film, but at the end of the day, they still failed to get buyers.”

To a certain extent, it was troublesome for me. I was in a relationship, and that hit a rough patch due to the controversy. Later, my relationship with my boyfriend fizzled out, but for another reason altogether. If my link-up with Shoaib hadn’t happened, maybe I wouldn’t have lost my boyfriend. I won’t deny that my parents were upset, but they are modern and educated people and they saw it in the right light,” the actress added.

When enquired about her take on Shoaib’s marriage with Ayesha, an irate Sayali said, “Why should I offer an opinion on anybody’s decision? But if I were ever offered marriage by Shoaib’s parents, I would have refused. I would have run away from it.”

Ram Gopal Verma's film on Swami Nityanand Scandal

Ram Gopal Verma is all set to make a movie based on the Swami Nityanand Sex Scandal with actress Ranjitha. The movie's name is God and Sex. Ramu's God and Sex is based on the life of godman Swami Nityananda, who has been in the news for his alleged sex scandal.

Ramu says,"God And Sex is a film I intend to make. It will take a deep hard look at the world of godmen. It will focus on how these so-called representatives of God continue to con gullible devotees to satisfy their diverse needs," Ramu said.

It may be recalled that Sadhus and Swamis have always been shown in Ram Gopal Verma's films as treacherous planners who conceptualize an assassination(remember Sarkar?) Ramu adds,

"Most swamis in the country are looked up to as almost Gods.Yet many of them are exposed from time to time. Sometimes by the media and at other times by those close to them. Many a time, their sex drive has been found to be the reason for the same.God And Sex will, once and for all, explore, examine and expose everything that goes on behind the closed doors of ashrams of godmen."

Adds Ramu, "There are so many godmen who are privy to celebrities' secrets and there's so much of power-brokering going on God And Sex will expose all that."

Currently, Ramu is in the process of developing the script of God And Sex. "I haven't decided yet who will direct the film or whom I will cast in the film. Once the scripting is done, I will take a call."

By the way, did you know this very same Ranjitha, who was in the video is a part of Mani Rathnam's next film Ravanna?

Aamir Khan's Interview of his plans in 2010

Aamir Khan's interview given to Koel Puri in headlines today revealed Aamir Khan's future plans. Here are the excerpts:

Are we seeing you as you after a long time and not as a character?
I've forgotten what is me physically because I've changed myself all along for different films even the way I look, my hair and all that. I am not quite sure what is me now any more. I mean not as a person just physically... am I the big hulk of Ghajini? Or am I the boyish guy? Physically I don't know what I am, there's been no constant for me.

You've had successful films in the recent past and you've had two of the biggest blockbusters ever, then you've taken a sabbatical. What is this period about?
The reason I've taken a sabbatical is one, I do have enough work on my plate (as a producer). I've been working for so many years over two decades. I feel I need to stop for a minute. There are so many things I want to do that I'm unable to do, such as I want to learn cooking from my mum.

What about being in love and married to a much younger woman?
I am 45 and Kiran is 37.
Oh, not that much younger, but she's got this vivacious young feel.
Ya. I am hoping I am young too. She has a really positive energy which I feel has helped me a lot as well.

Have you changed being with her?
I think I have. I grew up in a very conservative household as a very responsible guy and being very straight and upright about things. I think her energy helped me loosen up a bit.

There is also something that has happened with you and during the release of My Name is Khan. You stood up and spoke against Chief Minister Modi, and no one supported you and the same thing happened with Shah Rukh. Do you think this industry will ever become a fraternity?
No I don't think that's accurate. I think there was a lot of support for both me and for Shah Rukh.

You didn't come out and say anything.
Well actually I didn't. My father had passed away and I was not part of public life at all at that part of time. So that is the reason I didn't come out and speak out in public, but what probably people don't know is that I made phone calls to each and every exhibition house. I spoke to each of the theatre chains and said, you know this is something you should do.

And this was on Shah Rukh's behest?

No. Shah Rukh has no idea I have done this. Karan doesn't know I have done this. And I did it not because of Shah Rukh and Karan but because this was the right thing to do. Not just for the industry, but for life, you know. I feel that no one should threaten anyone. This is a democracy and the rule of law should prevail

Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai's Saturday Night Fever

Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s film Action Replayy promises to groove the audiences to the music reminiscent of the 1977 hit Saturday Night Fever. The song will be shot like the 'Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte' song from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. In other words, the song will be a tribute to the romantic chemistry betwen the best Bollywood Jodis of the 70s. The song, to be shot at the end of Aprilin Manali, will have Akshay and Aishwarya teasing each other, vintage style.

A source said, “This is Akshay’s biggest release before Tees Maar Khan and director-producer Vipul Shah wants the film to touch everybody’s heart. The song is a tribute to the leading Bollywood couples of the 1970s and will highlight their romance. The five couples whom Akshay and Aishwarya will pay a tribute to in the five-minute song will be Amitabh-Jaya, Dharmendra-Hema, Rishi-Neetu, Rajesh-Mumtaz and Shashi-Parveen.”

The song, composed by Pritam, has lyrics which go: Nakhre nakhre nakhre, nakhre hain naatak re, nakhre nakhre nakhre tu peeche hi rakh re . “Since the film has a retro feel, Akshay and Aishwarya will be dressed just like these legendary couples did in their films. The unit is currently planning how to choreograph the song,” added the source.
