Minissha Lamba and Shobhaa De's Twitter War

Minissha Lamba and Shobhaa De leveraged the Twitter power to get at each other’s goats. The starlet who had a harrowing time at the customs for carrying jewelry worth nearly Rs 50 lakh. Shobhaa De had tweeted, "Poor Minissha: Lamba race ki ghodi or lame duck? Warning to other Bollywood wannabes to leave those borrowed rocks at home. Dazzle wt yr talent (sic)."

Minissha obviously didn’t find it too flattering and tweeted back, :”Real writers write books. Slandering on Twitter is a job of the less gifted. Dazzle with your talent, Ms. De, not ur slander.”
The 26 year old actress was grilled for more than 16 hours after she arrived from Cannes. She had said that she was not aware of the procedure of declaring the jewelry which she claimed that the ornaments were for promotional purposes and did not belong to her.

Shobhaa De has been the target of many celebrities on Twitter, from Sonam Kapoor, her friend director Punit Malhotra. Everyone knows about Arbaaz Khan’s twitter salvo against Shobhaa De. About Minssha’s reaction to Shobhaa De, the lady says it was all in good humor. We do not find any humor here, Minissha and we did not find one in Shobhaa’ statement too; may be we are slow to get the ‘punch’ line.
Recently, ad-man Suhel Seth and filmmaker Pritish Nandy took nasty pot shots at each other on Twitter. There is also a brewing cold war between filmmaker Ram Gopal and Karan Johar.

Barbara Mori accuses Newspaper of lying

Barbara Mori on Twitter wrote "This bombay times lies!! Unbelievable! Why they doing this?.i just want u to know that i can't be more happy in my life rigth now because of kites and how the people loved the film"

Bombay Times, the entertainment supplement of Times of India had written that Barbara Mori was packing her bags and leaving India for the last time due to the negative reaction of people towards Kites. Apparently Hrithik Roshan tweeted " THANK YOU for making it the 2nd BIGGEST film opening in the history of cinema all over the WORLD!"

One thing is clearly irrespective of whether Kites is a hit or not, newspapers should VERIFY before writing such things. Secondly, if Times of India was associated with Kites, it would have gone out of its way talking 'good things' about the film. This is what happens.A lot of media houses are biased about their films and rightly so.Stardust was the only magazine that talked about Accident at Hill Road (as its boss Nari Hira produced the film) while no one else bothered.

Shammi Kapoor loves Facebook

Shammi Kapoor loves Internet to the hilt and loves to play poker on Facebook Here it from the original charismatic actor whose bright smile at 79 still lightens the mood.

Love for Internet: I have been quite crazy about the Internet right from its inception. In fact, I used to stay tuned to Apple E World even before Internet came to India. I find it a very educative and entertaining medium. But it's not just the Internet, I have a thing for gadgets and gizmos too. At my age, this is an excellent medium to keep myself engaged and well informed. I enjoy chatting, blogging, emailing and stuff. So, when my dear friend Rajjat Barjatya told me about this idea, I immediately agreed.

Facebook Fan: I feel Facebook is an excellent medium to stay in touch with friends and family. I don't play any game on Facebook, except Poker. And I can't tell you how thrilled I get when I win a round of poker with my friends. My grandson, who now lives in Houston, loves to play Mortal Combat online. I used to play with him when he was younger. But now it's only Poker.

About Ranbir and Kareena Kapoor's success:I am very proud of Ranbir (Kapoor). He has achieved a lot in his career early. Ranbir is not only a superb actor, but also a fabulous dancer. Even Kareena is doing so well. They are also aware of my online obsession (laughs). We can't ask for more from our young generation.

Arjun Rampal's Secrets for Choosing Movies

Arjun Rampal has exposed his secret about how he chooses movies.

"My funda of selecting a film is simple. Whenever I choose a film, the question that I ask myself is - 'Would I go into a theatre to watch a movie like this instead of buying a DVD?' If the answer is 'yes' then I am game for it", smiles Arjun, "Only after I am convinced with the subject do I look at other aspects that go into a particular film. I can proudly say that I was very convinced in a similar manner for Housefull, Raajneeti and after that remake of Stepmom. Shahrukh Khan Plays Cupid in Real Life

Shah Rukh Khan played real life cupid when he sought to unite an estranged couple. The husband is basically an ex journalist of a famous tabolid and his marriage was reportedly in doldrums due to his estranged relationship with his wife.
Gurgaon-based Kandula Subramaniam’s marriage was on the rocks, he and wife Krishnakoli Dutta were living separately for a while, and the depressed husband was doing everything possible to win his wife back. But in vain. Until Kandula remembered that Krishnakoli was a big Shah Rukh Khan fan. And he figured the Bollywood supremo, who features on the ‘Most Powerful’ lists of international magazines and portals, might just be able to swing his marriage around for him.

Desperately, he sought SRK’s e-mail address and wrote the actor an impassioned letter explaining his dismal circumstances and imploring him to step in and try and bring Krishnakoli around. Shah Rukh, still busy untangling the IPL mess and working on his next film Ra-1, took remedial action promptly. On May 18, which was Krishnakoli’s birthday, she got a phone call. And on the line was her idol!

After wishing the stunned woman a “happy birthday”, careful not to intrude on her private space, SRK requested Krishnakoli to try and give her estranged relationship with Kandula another shot. Hugely surprised by this suggestion from the most charismatic love ambassador of Hindi cinema, Krishnakoli promised to try and make things work with her husband.

The story ends there. We have no footnotes to add on whether Krishnakoli and Kandula have patched up yet. It is too early to say so. But we do know she was touched that he had done this for her. At first, she couldn’t believe that it was SRK on the line, she thought somebody was pulling her leg. Kandula said, “When you want to bridge the gap, then you try everything in your power. After praying to God, I thought the next best thing was to try and reach out to Mr Khan. Somehow deep within me I knew that if I wrote to him, he would make the call.’’

Vidya Balan: I Fell in Love Twice and Lost

Vidya Balan talks about marriage, men and whether she would act after marriage Source: TOI

You are 30 now – is marriage finally on the horizon?
I haven’t come across someone I want to spend the rest of my life with. My parents want me to get married, but it’s not like they think it will happen tomorrow. Even they want me to marry someone I’m sure about.

So do they show you photographs of eligible grooms and ask you to meet them?
It hasn’t come to that stage. They are not setting it up themselves, but they do encourage me to meet people and keep saying that I should find the right person. They want me to keep my eyes open, rather open my eyes wider (laughs). Let’s just say that they want me to socialise more often. I think they realise that I don’t see myself getting into an arranged marriage.

But you have fallen in love...
Yes. I have fallen in love. It has happened a couple of times.

And?
It didn’t work out...

Did that slow you down?
No. I am a hopeless romantic at heart. I believe that it’s better to have loved and lost rather than never to have loved at all.

Was it difficult to come to terms with?
Well, it wasn’t easy. It is directly proportional to how strong the relationship was.

What kind of a man would you want if you get married?
Please reframe your question. There is no ‘if’. I want to categorically tell you that I want to get married. I want to have a husband and a family – I’d love that (pauses). I don’t believe in casual relationships and I can never be in a live-in relationship.

Please continue...
I’ll marry someone who gives me some butterflies in my stomach. Someone like George Clooney. His age is now beginning to show, so maybe someone younger. He should be someone I can discuss anything under the sun with. Most importantly, he should be very selfassured.

What’s your definition of ‘self-assured’?
My man should accept me just the way I am. If he hears rumours linking me with someone, he should have faith in me. And if it’s bothering him, he should bring it up with me and not let it fester. Also, he should be able to deal with the attention and adulation we stars get.

But would you give up your acting career for him?
Not at all! If I decide to do that, that’s a different story. I’ll go with the flow. But it can’t be someone else’s decision. Being an actress is a big part of me. That – and my family – is my driving force. I can manage both, a career and marriage. Why would I want to wake up one morning and give it all up just because someone else is pressurising me to?

Have you set a deadline for marriage?
Not really.

Most actresses tend to marry wealthy men. Do you see yourself following suit?
It does make sense. Most men cannot handle women who earn more than them. There is an Abhimaan type of situation in most relationships where the woman is more famous and has a bigger bank balance. Don't get me wrong – I am not a materialistic person. But it's always wiser to marry someone who is at least as well of as you, if not better. Besides, money is important, isn't it?

How important is fidelity to you?
It’s on the top of my list. If he wants to be with anyone else, he shouldn’t be with me. Having said that, it amazes me that there are so many people who know that their spouses are having affairs and yet they continue with a loveless marriage. I have conversations with people about this and some of them even tell me that so-and-so is ‘having an affair but he loves his wife dearly’. How can that be possible? It’s so scary. And mind you, this isn’t just happening in the film industry, but in other spheres as well.

If you catch your husband cheating on you, would you slam the door on his face forever?
(Clenches her fist) Yes, I would.

The bottom line about men...
You can’t live with them, you can’t live without them.

Kites Hindi Version or Kites English Version: Which is Better?

Kites Hindi version released on 21 May 2010 and the English version, Kites: The Remixed released on May 28. Which is better?

While Kites is edited by Avik Ali, the English version of Kites is edited by  Brett Ratner. The international version aimed at the US market and the multiplex going youth crowd is 90 minutes long. The Hindi version of Kits is 130 minutes long with songs.

The English version will have all the songs deleted  except for 'Fire' which has an altenative English version that will be heard during the end titles. With alternative footage and added action scenes, this movie aims at a younger, action orientated audience. The movie is said to be 'racier, edgier and spunkier' than the Hindi edit following the remix formula idea originally created by Michael "Mic" Neumann for the international television series titled Kung Faux which re-cut, remixed, and re-scored original Hong Kong produced kung fu action films.

While the Hindi version of Kites is scheduled for release on May 21, 2010, the international version will be released one week later on May 28, 2010. The two versions were simultaneously shot, and that most of the original Hindi based music has been replaced by the Hollywood's composer Graeme Revell for the international English ( Dubtitled ) version of the movie.

Kites Movie Review: Kites Fly High

Kites, the most awaited movie this season rises above expectations. Anurag Basu had maintained many times that he has got all the leeway to make the movie his way and it shows. Much as it is a Hrithik Roshan movie, there are two other stars who shine throughout: actress Barbara Mori and the director Anurag Basu.

Technically speaking:
Anurag Basu shines in filming the poignant and romantic moments in the film. Kites is crisply edited by Avik Ali. Music by Rajesh Roshan is a winner with melodious ditties like ‘Dil Kyun Yeh Mera’, ‘Zindagi’ and the adrenalin gushing ‘Fire’. Cinematography by Ayananka Bose is awesome.

Performances in Kites: Barbara Mori has the spunk and the grace to grace Natasha’s role. You get the feeling that this woman does not act, she feels every moment and reacts. That is the magic of Barbara Mori. Kangna Ranaut has got a brief role but trust the girl to breathe fire in it. Kabir Bedi is convincing and Nick Brown does a darn good job as well. Mr Talent Hrithik Roshan rises above the script and in a role that is miles away from Jodhaa Akbar, shines like sunshine. He makes the Kites fly high, really high.

To Sum Up: Watch Kites for Hrithik-Barbara chemistry and Anurag Basu's fantastic direction

Why Kites is Called Kites: Director Anurag Basu Clarifies

Anurag Basu, the director of Murder, Life in a Metro and Gangster is clueless why he was chosen to direct Kites “I do not know why Rakesh Roshan took me as a director. Rakesh Roshan had seen my film Gangster. During that time, Life In A Metro wasn't released. He called me and said, "I've got a story for Hrithik in mind. I want you to direct it." At that time, I said, "No." Knowing Hrithik's star status, I always wondered why would Hrithik do my film. I was a small director who was busy with an ensemble cast film titled Life In A Metro. Plus, I had also heard that he is doing a Raj Kumar Hirani film, Aditya Chopra's film, etc. But Rakesh gave me an idea to work on. Then when I met him at the 2007, IIFA Awards in Yorkshire, he told me, "Have you done something about the idea Anurag?" That's when on the way back to India on the flight I started writing the script. Kites isn't the usual Film Kraft films which we're used to seeing. Hrithik took a walk around his hall and instantly said, 'yes'

Why is the movie Kites called Kites? Director Anurag Basu explains, In the film, I needed some metaphor. The title Kites isn't forced in. There is a saying that kites fly high in the sky, not with the wind but against the wind. Hrithik and Barbara are the kites who are flying high. Their love is unstoppable and they go against the world but there is someone who is controlling these kites. And when they fly too close, there is a risk of losing one. We took the title Kites from one of the dialogues in our film.

About making a big film after small films
It is more difficult to make smaller films. If one can do a small film, that person can do bigger films easily. In big films, everything is available. In small films, you have to manage with very little. In fact, when he (Rakesh Roshan) asked me how many days I would take to make a film, I said 90 days. He told me it would take 130 days. I said, 'I have made two films in 130 days.' One day I needed a helicopter shot, so very reluctantly I asked him if I could have it for just a day. He gave it to me for three days. Now, I am spoiled!

Rakesh Roshan's interference with Kites
I was tense when I started. I am impulsive and indecisive. He's very organised. He wants everything on paper. I guess he got a little irritated when he used to ask what shot I would take in the morning and I would say, 'I don't know. I will go there and decide.'
He must have started wondering what I was doing. I just told him, 'I work this way.' It took a week or 10 days for us to understand each other. He was not there on the sets every day. He is a director, so he knew he should not be there.

Hrithik Roshan was not prepared for Kites
Director Anurag Basu had a big challenge in front of him when he had to direct one of India’s best actors: Hrithik Roshan. “ He is very natural.” Anurag says, “. He prepares a lot, reads his script, does his rehearsals and then comes on the sets. For this film, I didn't want that. I wanted to throw him in the middle of the sea this time with no preparations. I wanted to see what happens if Hrithik is unprepared. It was very difficult. I wanted an imperfect Hrithik in Kites, and he is very good in that. We had a ball. You'll see a completely new Hrithik in Kites."

Neil Nitin Mukesh's Real Fights in Lafangey Pandey

If you think Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar are the ones who can give an arm and leg for the role, think again? Have you seen an actor dropping all his guard and becoming the fighter of the gutters? Welcome, Neil Nitin Mukesh, he is doing real life fights, bruises, tears et all in his forthcoming movie Lafangey Pandey.

The movie is wrapped up though and Neil even received an iPad for his commitment to the film. He was known to be shooting, or rather fighting from 11 am in the morning till post midnight at the Yashraj studios, Mumbai for the film. The actor was needed actually go out on the streets and fight out like a normal ruffian with people.

Neil says, “Except for one detail, there's nothing fake about the fists of fury that fly in Pradeep Sarkar's film. It requires the rawest of physical violence and it can't be faked. So if you see me now I'm covered with welters, wounds and bruises all gifted to me every day while shooting this, the most dangerous film of my career."

Neil adds, “If my mother sees all this, she will freak out. I am getting physically hurt every day. I'm covered in bruises. Because I am light-skinned the hurt marks show up bright red on me within seconds. I look... alarming!! Even to myself in the mirror!" He smiles, “"I don't need Aseembhai(makeup man) to paint on fake blood. My stunt director Shyam Kaushalji is doing a very good job of making my bruises and lacerations look real...because they are real."

Neil is all praises for his stuntman. "Shyam Kaushalji is someone I really respect. I touch his feet every morning although he really puts me through the most dangerous situations. In New York, he made me run across a street with speeding cars. In Aa Dekhen Zara he had thrown me off the 18th floor. But nothing had prepared me for what Shyamji has in store for me in Lafangey Parindey."

Lafangey Pandey is the story about rivalry among bike gangs in Mumbai. The film needed Neil to get into serious, authentic street fights. He says "Fortunately I'm not a stranger to these kind of raw gutter-level combats. I may come across as soft spoken now. But I've gone through my share of campus fights during my college days. In fact I've a fierce temper problem. So far I had kept it in check. But now in Lafangey Parindey I'm disturbed to see the violent ill-tempered side of me emerging effortlessly. What surprises me is the deep dark angry side to Dada's (director Pradeep Sarkar) personality. Who would have thought the man who made Parineeta and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag had so much anger and violence in him?”

Arjun Rampal Blames Indian Cricket Team for Non Performance

Arjun Rampal has all the good things going for him. His Housefull is doing decently well, his next movie Ra One is touted to be the next big thing. He is also opening his club LAP in Mumbai after the one he opened in Delhi. He is a tad sad though especially after his wife Mehr Jessia was dragged in the T20 controversy. She had organized the IPL parties and Dhoni remarked after the T20 World Cup loss that the IPL parties were responsible for the non-performance.

Arjun says, "I own a night club. So definitely, I'll be the one who'll be promoting a lot of parties in and out of the town. But the fact of the matter is that all the players used to get three days off before their next game. IPL is more of a carnival. Fans got closer to the players and everybody enjoyed themselves. That was the motto of such parties. I don't think it's correct to say that 'It's the parties and therefore the Indian team hasn't done well at the recent failure at the ICC World Cup T-20'. I think it's the selection of the team which was not correct. Secondly, the other players like Chris Gayle, Michael Hussey, etc who came from International teams have come to IPL parties and went on to play good innings later in the World Cup T-20. I don't think that my wife and I are to be blamed for organising parties. That's silly and just an excuse to get away. Get the game right first. We were not forcing anyone to come to the parties. If my movies don't do well, I don't blame anybody else but myself."

Anurag Basu's and Barbara Mori's Cancer Fight

Did you know that both Barbara Mori and Anurag Basu, director of Kites suffered from cancer. Both of them fought the disease bravely and are now hale and hearty

Anurag Basu:: It was a typical filmi dramatic point. One day I started bleeding from my mouth. I was diagnosed with acute leukemia, while my wife was pregnant with our first kid. At that point, I still didn't know I was suffering from leukemia.

One day, Bhatt saab [producer Mahesh Bhatt, Basu's mentor] came to meet me and he was shaking and weeping. I felt that there was something seriously wrong with me. I was bleeding from everywhere.
I called one of my doctor cousins and was shifted to the Tata Memorial Center (a cancer hospital in Mumbai), where I came to know about my situation. I was put on a ventilator.

I wanted to be okay before my wife's delivery. I wanted to see my child before I died. The doctors told me to have will power and I fought with chemotherapy and medicines.I realized that no one would give me work because I was a patient. I understood their viewpoint. I moved backed to television, though I had already directed a hit in Murder.

I wanted to survive and make money for my treatment. I did some small serials for my own production house. After that, Bhatt saab gave me Gangster.

Barbara Mori's Cancer Fight: I had cancer of the uterus," she says. "It was diagnosed at an early stage and I underwent a surgery. When I heard the news, I knew I was going to be a fighter but even then I could not believe it was happening to me. At that time it looked like I had everything -- my son, popularity, a beautiful home, love from my friends and fans, and then suddenly everything seemed to shatter."

Housefull Movie Review: Loser's Movie

When the Sultan of Senselessness Sajid Khan meets the Nizam of Nonsense, Sajid Nadiadwala; you know that the movie that you will watch is not going to be an enlightening experience. Sajid Nadiadwala clearly pays tribute to the directors of the ‘entertainment’ genre and makes it clear that his movie is about sheer entertainment. But even entertainment has parameters, you can be witty and superb as a No Entry and Dhamaal or stupid like Kambhakkt Ishq. So where does Housefull fit in? Though he may cry from the rooftops that is not true,Sajid Khan has lifted scenes from foreign movies

Story of Housefull:
The story begins on a promising note with the entry of Akshay Kumar as ‘Aarush’ who is a perennial loser. He loses out on a lot of things due to being a panaoti(disgrace) and even bags an unconventional job in a casino where his presence makes people lose. Loser’s director Sajid Khan decides to show how Aarush can be of luck to some people, and lands him in his buddy Bob(Ritesh Deshmukh) house. Bob and his wife Hetal decide to find a traditional girl Devika(Jiah Khan) who is the daughter of a rich Indian businessman( Randhir Kapoor). Though Aarush thinks that his fortunes will change, he comes to know that Devika goes off with another man as her idea was to temporarily marry an Indian guy and do away with the million pounds from her dad.
Disappointed, Aarush goes to the sea to commit suicide and is rescued by Sandy(Deepika Padukone). From then on when things start going good for Aarush, there comes problems in the form of Sandy’s police officer brother(Arjun Rampal) and Hetal’s father Batuk Patel(Boman Irani) ready to take flight to London to meet prospective brother-in-law and son-in-law respectively. From hereon,Sajid Khan tries to walk the path tread in movies like No Entry and Hungama with less success.

Plus points of Housefull
1. Akshay Kumar’s brilliant acting and chemistry with Riteish Deshmukh in top form
2. Jiah Khan’s sex appeal that is wow-some
3. The ‘Such a Loser’ track
4. Chunky Pandey’s interesting cameo

Minus Points of Housefull
The script is not good enough; yeah we know the rap about you don’t look for scripts in such films but then there are loose ends galore. For instance, Jiah Khan’s disappearance is unexplained. Chunky Pandey could have added to the confusion but even he is not there in the later parts despite leaving such a good impact. His talent could have been tapped more in the movie.

Sequences are lifted from Hollywood movies, no matter what Sajid Khan says. The parrot scenes are lifted from Scary Movie 2, the tiger sequence from Hangover and the Akshay Kumar-Ritesh Deshmukh ‘gay misunderstanding’ angle falls flat, because we have seen them before in Kal Ho Na Ho and Dostana. Parts like Akshay Kumar seemingly going to commit suicide The climax scenes featuring nitrous oxide may have been Sajid Khan’s big idea to make an impact but sadly, it does not create the impact. Scenes like showing a parrot getting sucked in a vaccum cleaner and calling a black American baby Damaar ka Tukdaa may be insensitive and racist; they also show the director’s lack of finesse in dabbling with smart, slapstick comedy.

Performances in Housefull
What the movie lacks in good lines and wisecracks, it makes in performances. The pick of the lot is Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh, Chunky Pandey and Jiah Khan. Jiah Khan is brilliant every manner; she has the right sex appeal, the right package and she gets to act both coy and outrageous in a span of fifteen minutes.

Chunky Pandey as Aakhri Pasta is a riot, believe it or not; he has walked away with the maximum laughs especially for the line, ‘I am joking’. Deepika Padukone looks fetching in those hot pants. Sadly Lara Dutta does not impress in the film, her dress sense is not up to mark and the director seems to have failed her as he did to Vidya Balan in Heyy Babyy. The movie belongs to both Ritesh Deshmukh and Akshay Kumar who have parallel roles in the film. Akshay Kumar definitely has done a fantastic job, doing comedy with a straight face. Watch him emote in a tensed scene where Arjun Rampal puts him to a lie detector test. Speaking of Arjun Rampal, he doesn’t have to act much; his looks do the job for him. Boman Irani as usual is a reliable customer

To Sum Up
Housefull is a Panaoti picture: I am Joking
