Salman Khan proves his professionalism

The press may write that Salman Khan is not up and ready for his film Ready in the morning because he sleep late at night; this unpredictable actor gave a crash course on professional by making himself present on the sets of Bodyguard even though he was not required. It so happened that Bebo was unwell that day and and the unit was left in a lurch wondering what to do that day. When this new reached Sallu, he rushed. in a private helicopter from Jaipur to Pune so that the crew didn't have to waste a day.

A source on the set adds "The shooting had come to a halt since Kareena fell ill and Salman wasn't expected till much later. A lot of time would have been wasted and nearly 200 people would have been left hanging if it weren't for Salman's quick thinking. He air-dashed from Jaipur to Pune and even requested the pilot to halt at the Symbiosis Institute of Management so that time would be saved,"

Producer Atul Agnihotri too confirmed the story, "Salman bhai saved a day's shooting for us after Kareena fell ill and was advised two days of bed rest. We were canning a song that day and so I didn't have a supporting cast to fall back on. I requested Salman bhai to return early and he was back by the time we'd finished lunch. And we shot some solo portions with him."

Shah Rukh Khan's father was rejected in Mughal-E-Azam

Not many know that Shah Rukh Khan's father had hoped to get a small role in Mughal-e-Azam but was turned down. Now, his son has gone ahead to make a documentary on the film. The father of the supertar was turned down in just a day for being a bad actor. Shah Rukh Khan says in his trademark humorous vein, "My father was selected for a Pathan's role and he performed so badly that Asifsaab threw him out of the film. My father would say to me when I was small that Asifsaab told him to go back home and give birth to an actor."

K. Asif's advice came true when Taj Mohammed Khan gave birth to Shah Rukh khan, who to rule Bollywood for time to come. These memories serve an emotional anchor to the actor who has inspired him to don the mantle of the producer of this documentary.

SRK says, "I think of Mughal-e-Azam which experienced several hurdles but did not compromise on the passion of filmmaking," Though he is shooting for Don 2 in Malaysia, the actor flew down to Malaysia to unveil a documentary of the film. The documentary has been produced by SRK's own production company, Red Chillies Entertainment.

The actor, who has acted in remakes such as Devdas and Don, will not act in Mughal-e-Azam. "Mughal-e-Azam is the mother of all films. Ma ka remake nahi hota" (Mothers cannot be remade) Shah Rukh said. When asked which role he would like to play if Mughal-e-Azam is remade, SRK said, "You should ask this to the filmmaker who would dare to take the risk of remaking the film."

"The originality and passion of the filmmaker is so much in evidence in Mughal-e-Azam, that it cannot be recreated during a remake," said SRK. He said the documentary was not a piece of art but done to inspire people in showbiz about the need to preserve classics which are part of history. Emperor Akbar's dialogue in the film 'Salim tumhe marne nahi dega aur Anarkali hum tumhe jeene nahi denge' is SRK's favourite.

The documentary contains interviews with the family of K Asif and their efforts to keep the film alive by colouring the movie, preserving the prints and asking painter M F Hussain to make the film his muse and bring it on canvas. It also carries interviews with Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapur and Amitabh Bachchan. SRK is the narrator.

When asked which of his own films could be documented in the way Mughal-e-Azam had been done, SRK said it could be Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge after 15-20 years.

The Most Expensive Movie in Indian Cinema: Rana

Rajnikanth's Rana is going to be the most expensive movie in Indian film history. A historic film made on the lines of 300, Indian cinema's most valuable treasure Rajnikanth will be paired opposite three heroines in the film-Deepika Padukone, Anushka Shetty and Asin.

Rana is being directed by K.S. Ravikumar who has given the superstars two hits in the form of Muthu and Padayappa. K S Ravikumar says, "Yes, Rana will be an action entertainer and it will be a period film. Rajinikanth will sport a different look in it."


A source close to the film's unit also says, "If things go according to plan, Rana will start rolling in March. Rajini will play three different roles in it. It will be a trilingual and the film will release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi by next year."

While AR Rahman will compose the music for Rana,Rathnavelu will do the cinematographyi. Art and editing will be handled by Rajeevan and Anthony respectively. Daughter will coproduce the film along and also handle the special effects part. Soundary is also doing work in papa Rajnikanth'a animation flick Sultan The Warrior aka Hara, that will release after Rana.

Shah Rukh Khan's role in Don 2-The Chase Continues

Shah Rukh Khan in Don 2 promises high octane action. In fact, one of the high speed car chase scene in Berlin turned out of hand and damaged a very costly camera. A progressive step ahead of Don, in Don 2, Shah Rukh Khan's character is the European gang lord. He is really wanted in 11 countries now.

According to sources, the movie starts with Om Puri and Priyanka Chopra in a film. When Om Puri expresses his wish to retire, the door of the lift opens and the two stand face to face with the Don. Om Puri's wish remains unfulfilled.

Tanu Weds Manu Movie Review-R.Madhavan’s Best Performance

In the same league as Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin, Jab We Met and Band Baaja Baarat; Tanu Weds Manu is a delightful watch. There is something about the unconventional pair R. Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut, that special chemistry that tugs at our heart, albeit lovingly. This movie is the story of two people with totally contrasting personalities-while R. Madhavan’s character Manu is reserved, well-mannered, soft-spoken individual, Tanu revels in bad habits-smoking, drinking, treating life casually and of course, abusing. Just to know that she is not a lone sheep, Tanu’s father is also into expletives.

Manu’s wedding proposal for Tanu ends snappily when he comes to know that she has a boyfriend. When Manu ditches the idea of marriage with her and goes to attend a friend’s wedding, he sees Tanu there at the wedding as a friend of the bride. Later we come to know that Tanu’s boyfriend whom she is very eager to marry and has the same personality as her, is Jimmy Shergill. But Manu’s subtle good nature, wins her over in the end, and she decides to marry Manu instead. But it is not so easy, as the hot-headed Jimmy Shergill will not give in so easily.


Plus points of Tanu Weds Manu
1 . Briliiant performances by the actors, especially R. Madhavan and Deepak Dobriyal
2. The psychedelic milieu and the old town feel of Delhi, Kanpur, Lucknow and Kapurthala is well captured by the cinematographer Chitranjan Das.
3. Some very good scenes in the first half, pleasing narrative, great characterizations merging into a decently good climax
4. Good chemistry between the lead pair
5. The movie stays non-filmy and relatable, and only the climax was over-the-top, but that can be excused because it was done for cinematic liberty.

Minus points of Tanu Wed Manu
1. While some scenes stand out, others pale or drag. For instance, one of the sangeet songs where Kangna dances to, could have been curtailed. Also the second half has some scenes that could have been trimmed. Faster editing would have been appreciated
2. Though there is good chemistry between the lead, one or two romantic scenes could have been more interesting.
3. Deepak Dobriyal’s flirting with a girl in the film was cute, they should have worked on that angle
4. The biggest negative is absence of good music. If you are making a wedding based, romantic movie, you better have peppy numbers and soft, romantic tracks.

1. The opening scene where Tanu sees Manu
2. Manu’s friendship with her friend( Swara Bhaskar)
3. The fireplace scene where Kangna talks to R. Madhavan about her being the human pacemaker.
4. The Jai-Mata Di scene featuring Deepak Dobriyal
5. R. Madhavan’s brilliant scene in the car where he tells her that he loves her

Performances in Tanu Weds Manu
Kangna Ranaut is not so effective, her dialogue delivery and diction is insipid and she is not exactly able to play the free-bird so well. Swara Bhaskar outshines her . a. The supporting cast of K.K. Raina, Rajendra Gupta and Navni Parihar are okay. Ravi Kishen is utterly wasted in this film, one even wonders what he was doing in the film, either his role was heavily chopped or he just did the role on a goodwill basis. Jimmy Shergill comes up with another brilliant performance. An under-rated actor in Bollywood, he is much better than many actors today. Tanu weds Manu belongs to Manu, .R. Madhavan and Deepak Dobriyal. Although, Deepak has a brief role, he does make quite an impact. Madhavan has given his best performance in Bollywood in Tanu Weds Manu. In the same mould as Mohan Bhagav(Shah Rukh Khan) of Swades and Prem (Salman Khan) of Hum Saath Saath Hain, the shy guy and too-good-to-be-true act of R.Maddy will be in our minds for a long time to come.
Conclusion: Tanu Weds Manu is a charming movie. This may not be a heart-raging love story but it will definitely touch a special place in your heart.

What do you think about the awards?
I don't attend awards shows. The fact is that the organiser calls you, saying that please come for the show, we will give you an award.If you refuse, they will give the award to someone else.They have to market and sell their award function. That's why it's a problem for them (if you don't attend). So they give awards to whoever attends the awards show.
The minute stars say they are coming, the organisers give awards to everyone in different categories like Critic's award, Viewer's choice, Performer of the Year and what not.

What about the National awards?

Those are good but even they have been tarnished once or twice. The only satisfaction is that you are getting the award from the President of India -- at least the country's highest civilian is giving it to you

Do you think we can make it to the Oscars?
Yes. But the problem is that there's a lot of politics in our country. There are so many small and big films that are good. Small films don't do well because we start manipulating the process and they have to lobby for their film. My question is: Why are you betraying your country? Why don't you send films that are worthy?

Here's an example. A few years back, Devdas and The Legend of Bhagat Singh were in queue for Oscars. If we need a chance at the Oscars, we must send the best film. In that case, which film would you send -- that of a drunkard or a freedom fighter? Who has the better chance? And which film did you send?

There may be many small films made by small directors and newcomers. But nobody sends them. So who are we cheating? Our country.

Saath Khoon Maaf Review: This Time, I am Going to Drink His Blood

Based on the 7 paged Ruskin Bond Story ‘Susanna's Seven Husbands’ the Vishal Bharadwaj movie ‘Saath khoon Maaf’ is suited best for people who like dark, brooding cinema. Tighter editing would have lightened up the proceedings further. Also please remember, you have to be very careful and attentive while watching this film. “This time I am going to drink his blood” Priyanka Chopra declares. When you see the movie, you will know that she means the blood of Jesus Christ..

Susanna (Priyanka Chopra) is unlucky in love, her first husband Major Edwin (Neil Nitin Mukesh) is an overtly possessive character. In her 20s, she has a tough time dealing with this man who keeps track of her every move. There is an adolescent boy in the house, Arun (childhood character for Vivaan Shah) who does menial jobs around the house. Susanna takes a liking to the boy and ensures that he gets good education. As the boy grow up, he starts falling in love with this woman and sees her shifting from one husband to the other. Susanna bumps her first husband off because she’s had it enough with his overtly possessive nature and abusive behavior with everyone in the house, including.

After his death, Susanna marries the choir singer at the funeral, who incidentally is a rockstar. Jimmy(John Abraham) is famous but fame he gains, through plagiarized music and makes quite a name for himself. But, he gets involved in drugs and girls, so much that he begins to lose his identity. Susanna tries her best to have him treated but to no avail. Finally, he dies of drug overdose, or is rather ,given an overdose..

The third husband is Wasiullah aka Musafir (Irrfan Khan), Susanna marries him as she falls in love with his romantic charm and love for poetry. But, to her disgust and anger; she finds that he has a violent sexual fetish, raping her and injuring her severely while making love. He too meets his end and the fourth man to enter Priyanka’s life in her late 30s is the suave Nicolas (Aleksandr Dyachenko) from Moscow. This marriage too does not long as Susanna discovers that this Russian spy has wife and kids. Susanna has him eliminated.

The death of the Russian national has the police interested; and the officer investigating the case is Keemat Lal (Annu Kapoor). Sexually confident of herself, Susanna has a sexual rendezvous wit Keemat Lal to keep him quiet and distracted from the case, but it so happens that Keemat Lal begins to fall in love with Susanna. Smitten by her, he decides to marry her but during one of their intimate bouts, he dies due to cardiac arrest. But we all know that there lies some other reason for his death.


Well in her sixties, Susanna exposes her nude self (bare back scene) to Arun, but he is in love with her and since he is now going to get married to a girl, he detests her advances. Feeling ignored and lost in life, she decides to commit suicide. But Dr. Modhusudhon Tarafdar (Naseeruddin Shah, a doctor saves her life and feeds her mushroom diet. It doesn’t take long for Susanna to figure out that he wants to kill her but before he does this, she shoots him and ends his chapter as well.

Arun, still in love with Susanna, may have led his forensic team to believe she is dead but he finds her; and is wiling to marry her. However, by now Susanna has found someone who knows everything about her and is wiling to marry her and take her in his life. If you read this review of Saath Khoon Maaf again, you will know how he is.

Plus points of Saath Khoon Maaf
1. Vishal Bharadwaj’s creative streak is evident specially in some of the scenes where he holds the viewer attention brilliantly to such an extent that you would ignore a call that is coming and focus on the movie instead. For instance, in one scene, you see funeral transforming into the marriage in a split second and in other episode, marriage changing into funeral
2. The deaths marshaled by Priyanka and her faithful staff are not a frightful experience, it is more in the fun mould.
3. The narrative never gets heavy like it would in other Vishal Bharadwaj movies; this one is relatively slicker and captivating compared to his other film. The pace of the movie is thankfully quicker and quirkier compared to his past films
4. Though Priyanka Chopra’s character marries and remarries at the drop of a hat, you don’t really feel pangs of animosity or resentment at her character. By amplifying the negative parts of the male characters, Vishal gives reasons enough for us to empathize with her; instead and forgive her killings as the reasons appear convincing.

Minus points of Saath Khoon Maaf
1. Before the interval, the male characters, the performances and the situations are brilliantly woven but the film begins to slide downhill after the second-half. The last three parts of the story, involving the Russian spy, the Indian police officer and the doctor are ‘thanda’ in front of the first half.
2. As a writer, the film does have loopholes. For instance, the death of the Russian spy is hush-hushed and we don’t find much of an investigation happening here. Is it so easy to murder someone and move on? The law seems to be a silent spectator despite so many murders that have been happening.
3. Saath Khoon Maaf falters in the music department. Considering Vishal gives high quality music in his productions, barring ‘Darling’, no other song stands out.
4. Arun (Vivaan Shah)’s character is not layered properly. It would have been better if there were Malena-like situations showing his sexually-layered youthful pinings for Susanna. But the director plays safe here; it is an adult film and he could have dwelled on this angle as well.
5. John Abraham looks silly as a rock-star but he makes it up with a rather convincing performance as a drug-addict.

Performances in Saath Khoon Maaf:
Let’s stand up and give a thunderous applause to Priyanka Chopra who has given her career-best performance in Saath khoon Maaf. One of the most hardworking actresses of our generation, Priyanka had been shooting the film during the days she would host Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 3. She looks voluptuous in the film, which is a delight for sure. We cannot help but marvel at the way, she has played every age from 21 to 65 very well. An inhibition-free, dedicated approach; only the confident Priyanka Chopra could have done this so well.

From the male-cast, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Annu Kapoor impress the most. Neil gets the longest of roles among the men, and he slips into the role of a possessive lover like a glove. Annu Kapoor as the policeman is superb; he is wonderfully effortless. Irrfan Khan in a restrained mould, does a brilliant job. The rest Aleksandr, debutant Vivaan Shah and dad Naseer(in a rather small role) are okay. The acting DNA running strong in his veins, Vivaan hardly seems like a debutant. Konkona Sen Sharma, Usha Uthup and the two male helps are good.
Conclusion: Saath Khoon Maaf is not the kind of film that will seduce the box office. It will have diverse opinions and will find its resonance in the critics and film festivals. Having said that this is a good film but one wishes that this adult film was not given a child-like treatment.
