Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Movie Review: Dil Chahta Hai Upgraded

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is Dil Chahta Hai topped with Spanish flavor. But what the heck, the movie is delightfully refreshing in its treatment; it makes a subtle but refreshing impact.

How similar Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is with Dil Chahta Hai: Apart from the fact that both the movies were from the stable of Farhan Akhtar, there are quite a few parallels and dissimilarities. DCH(2001) was trend-setting and still seems fresh in our minds. It was the story of three guys with different personalities; they bond famously until an incident happens which leads to an altercation between two of the characters before all is well towards the end.

Just like in Dil Chahta Hai, the three guys in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara have a deep seated bonding but two of the friends have a misunderstanding between them Like DCH, the characters in ZNMD are rich, upwardly mobile and go through emotional highs and lows.

While DCH toyed around with Goa for a few scenes, ZNBD is based in Spain. It is about three guys taking an extended road trip to Spain. During the course of the trip, the three come to terms with their real selves, their fears, their insecurities and the emotional baggage of the past.

Story of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Kabir (Abhay Deol) has just proposed to his girlfriend Natasha (Kalki Koechlin) but before he gets settled, he wants to celebrate his bachelors’ birthday. He invites his friends Imran (Farhan Akhtar) and Arjun (Hrithik Roshan) for an extended road-trip to Spain. This, because they had promised to each other that if they would meet next time, they would participate in an adventure sport and what better than Spain! One can sense in the beginning that there has been some friction between Arjun and Imran because of a past incident that involved a girl in their lives. Nevertheless, they begin to forget their past issues and bond along well. They come stronger from each experience as they get ready to enjoy each moment, overcome each of their inherent fears and emotional baggage.

Plus points of the film

1. The story is familiar, there is nothing really different in the film, we have seen the things that are shown in the film before as well, but never in such a visually arresting and splendid manner. All the recurring themes of love coming-of-age, friend, love may have been seen before but Zoya and Farhan Akhtar bring an irrepressible zest to the proceedings.
2. The conversations are peppered with real-life humor. Without being derogatory, there is cheerful banter and funny digs that will make you break into smile.
3. One has to appreciate the way Zoya deals with some of the emotional content in the film on a superficial level, minus the dramatic detail but it is significant enough to get a peek into a character’s behavior. For instance, we come to know that Hrithik is money-minded because of a life-turning episode back in his childhood. There is no flashback but an understated, effective approach of why his decisions are often dictated by monetary considerations.
4. India has its first road-trip move..yippie
5. All the three characters appear quite real and believable

Minus points of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
1. One feels that the dialogues could have had more crisp one-liners. Dil Chahta Hai had them by the dozens; in ZNMD, it is all about the usual conversations but some cool lines could have helped.
2. The juvenile pranks played by Abhay Deol are indeed, juvenile and look silly.
3. Wish Katrina Kaif actually rode the bike.

Best scenes in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
1. The scene where Katrina Kaif tells Hrithik that he should live it up for the present and not be concerned about what he could do, when he would turn 40s.
2. The tomato festival and the brilliant picturization of ‘Ek Junoon-Paint it Red’
3. The paragliding scene
4. The bull fight scene
5. The smooch scene between Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan, and her bike ride
6. The emotion-rich scene between Farhan Akhtar and Naseeruddin Shah.

Performances in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Hrithik Roshan had said that for the first time, the focus would not entirely be on him, he is just one of the characters in the film and that everyone had been given equal space. He is right, everyone has a plum role and the movie breaks into three domains-Imran's, Kabir's and Arjun's giving them enough opportunity to thrive within that space.

Hrithik is shown to be ill-tempered in the beginning but as he gets into the groove of having fun, he lets his hair down and has a ball. In fact, his character evolves through the film. A fantastic performance, yet again. Abhay Deol plays the role of an anchor in the film, he has a Saif Ali Khan type role of Dil Chahta Hai, he is confused about his marriage and does not know if he is really going to be happy with the hitch. The one who really scores is the ever reliable Farhan Akhtar, he is a total natural. Watch him break-down as he talks to his father. In that one scene, he has the audience speechless; he shows that he is second to none when it comes to executingan emotionally driven scene Katrina Kaif has got a short and concise role and she manages to impress to. Kalki Koechlin is what Suchitra Krishnamoorthy was in Dil Chahta Hai, with more screenspace.

Conclusion: Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is an outstanding film, refreshing and shows us how to tackle our fears and live the life in our own way, and living it up big for the moment.
Rating:****(Very Good)

Delhi Belly Movie Review-S-Hit Happens

Delhi Belly does what it intended to, shock the clap (excuse the spelling mistake) out of people It is an adults movie alright but not for adults who cannot stand abusive language, toilet humor and double meanings With this movie, Aamir Khan has tried to push the comic caper kind of films that is in line with movies like Lock, Stock and 2 Barrels and the Hangover.

Story of Delhi Belly: Tashi(Imran Khan), Arup (Vir Das) and Nitin (Kunal Roy Kapur stay in a cramped room in the bylanes of Delhi. Tashi is to get married to the wealthy, beautiful Sonia; Arup works as a graphics designer for an irritating boss while Nitin is into sting photography and reporting. The three guys have a monotonous life, till the package that Shehnaaz was to handover to someone gets mismatched and is exchanged for stool sample of Nitin, that he had to give to a clinic following a bad case of diarrhea after eating chicken Tandoor at street-side.

Plus points of the film
1. The cheeky, blasphemous scenes and humor in the film. The humor is wacky and dirty, so if you crave for such kind of humor, this movie is your tonic.
2. The air of authenticity, the movie has been shot in real life locales and there are no filmy dreamy locales here, just lower-middle class neighborhoods and cramped lanes.

Minus points of the film
1. Excessive toilet humor; so even if you are an adult who abhors such kind of stuff, then this movie may not cater to your taste.
2. The songs D.K. Bose and other famous tracks are just merely played in the background. This is disappointing since one was looking forward to the videos.
3. There is no D.K.Bose
4. Aamir Khan disappoints in the end as the item boy

Performances in the film
The entire cast is simply brilliant. It is not an Imran Khan film at all; he is just a protagonist by default. All of them are equally important, key mentions being Kunal Roy Kapoor, Vir Das, Shehnaaz Treasury and Poorna Jagannathan. Imran Khan himself has given his career best performance. Shenaaz looks delightfully curvy and has also got her histrionics right. Poorna has more screen time and her chemistry with Imran is incredible. The show-stealer is Vijay Raaz who is such a treat; he easily dominates every other actor when he is put in the same frame.

Best scenes in Delhi Belly
1. The falling of the ceiling
2. Vijay Raaz talking to the waiter
3. The climax
4. The wedding scene that features Vir Das

Conclusion: Hit happens, Delhi Belly

Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap Movie Review: The Best Big B Film

Bachchan fans (one can fill an ocean with them), take a bow, Buddah Hoga Tera Baap is one of the best Amitabh Bachchan films. A near perfect tribute to this humble, timeless superstar, director Puri Jagganath has in his hand a film that shows why Amitabh Bachchan is the big B(baap) of Bollywood.

Story of Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap: Amitabh Bachchan (Viju) is back to Mumbai for a mission; he leaves his thriving pub business in Paris to sort out a few things in the city. He oozes charisma, flatters the ladies, and irks some guys who rub him the wrong way (by calling him ‘buddha –the old man). Viju is a fantastic sharpshooter; something that catches the eye of terrorists who want to employ him to kill one of the ACPs who has been giving them a tough time.

Plus points in Bbuddha Hoga Tera Baap
1. Amitabh Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan. Everything about him, what he does, what he wears in the film, what he rides and the dialogues that he delivers are a treat. You just cannot imagine the movie without Big B, he is indispensable.
2. True to South Indian tradition of films, the concept that has been borrowed in Bollywood in the form of Dabangg, Ready, Wanted and Ghajini, the hero is larger than life in BHTP as well But we do not complain, Viju is in top form and we want him that way, don’t we?
3. Between the fun moments and the action, there is enough space for poignant, memorable moments between Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan.
4. The medley ‘Go Meera Go’ that pays tribute to Big B’s memorable songs sung by the star himself as well as his other numbers ‘Haal-e-Dil’ and the title song are just beautiful. Full marks to Vishal Shekhar and the choreographer for making the song an audio-visual delight. The action stunts by Vijay and cinematography by Amit Rathod are amazing.

Minus points of Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baaap
1. Raveena Tandon is wasted in the film, her role is ill-defined; probably the most inconsequential role she has ever done (even in those Akshay-Ajay Devgan films of 90s she has some songs or romantic scenes) but in this one, she just ends up making faces.

Peformances in Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap
Sonu Sood and Hema Malini shine bright with their performances. South Indian actress Charmi who debuts in this film is peppy and instantly likeable. Sonal Sehgal gets a few scenes and she does it competently. The real star who looms high and proud is Mr. Bachchan, only the Baap of Bollywood can come up with such stuff. And yes, even the loud costumes and the colorful glasses grown on us.

Best scenes in Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap:
1. The medley song
2. The climax scene at the end
3. The restrained, memorable scenes between Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan.

Conclusion: If you are an Amitabh Bachchan fan or not, you are going to lap this entertainer.
