2. Emraan Hashmi: Emraan Hashmi showed his six packs off in Murder 2, though it was not so evident in the movie, he had build a nicely chiseled body that sparkled the promos.

Sanjay Dutt’s look in Agneepath (Kancha Cheena)

What do you think about Sanjay Dutt’s look in Agneepath? The effortless actor will be doing the role of Kancha China, the role played by Danny Denzongpa in the original in the late 80s.

Sanjay Dutt’s look in Agneepath is amazing with prosthetics in place. The actor looks evil with a capital E, with a slippery bald pate, a silver ring on the top of his left ear, heavily tattooed arm and the good old sinews intact. The actor rounds his look up with a devilish grin. As Hrithik Roshan who plays the protagonist says, ‘Sanjay Dutt’s character in Agneepath will be on par with Mogambo and Gabbar Singh.” Well, guess as far as the look of Sanjay Dutt as 'Kancha Cheena' for Agneepath goes, he does seem right.

Ranveer Singh: Sonakshi is attractive but Anushka is my best friend

Ranveer Singh seems to be nursing his heart after the breakup with Anushka Sharma. He candidly admits that he is attracted to Sonakshi Sharma but he was very close to Anushka and there can be no one like her.

Excerpts of the interview

On Ranveer Singh's relationship with Anushka Sharma
We are two young, attractive people. When people saw us going out and sharing wonderful chemistry, they speculated. The truth is, Anushka is a very good friend. We have drifted apart now unfortunately. I don't know if I've ever been in love. I don't know what love means. I have felt strong and deep emotions for people who are not related to me by blood. I don't know if that's love but yes, I've felt attraction and affection for Anushka.

Reason for Anushka Sharma Ranveer Singh split
We have drifted because we don't get to see each other as much as we used to. I think circumstances drove us apart. We worked together continuously for a year in Band Bajaa Baraat and saw each other everyday. Over a period of time we made common friends and hung out together going for dinners and movies. Now that our work is over, Anushka has forged her own path and signed on lots of movies. Now we don't meet each other at all.

On his closeness for Sonakshi Sinha
I do find Sonakshi very attractive, but we are not dating. I have met her many times and we share a healthy friendship. Right now I am single. I wouldn't mind if love comes along, but for the moment it's work over love.

Who is a better friend-Anushka Sharma or Sonakshi Sinha?
Anushka! I am much closer to her. We became very close over a period of time. I could talk to her about everything, because she went through the same process I was going through as a newcomer. We connected at that level.Yes, I miss her a lot. Anushka is the kind of girl you'll always miss, especially if she's been a part of your life and then suddenly isn't. You feel a void...

Salman Khan or Ajay Devgan-Who is better?

Both Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan are superstars, men who have got massive support and fan following. But who is better according to you, Salman Khan or Ajay Devgan?

Ajay Devgan's career: Ajay Devgan started off in 1991 with the megahit Phool aur Kaante.  He then did a lot of films in the 90s, the ones that were successful were Jigar (1992), Dilwale (1994), Suhaag (1994), Naajayaz (1995), Diljale (1996) and Ishq (1997). His roles were becoming staid till he did a turnaround with a fantastic performance in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). Since then, Ajay Devgan emerged from the profile of a dark horse to a true blue superstar. His hits from 2000 were Company (2002). The Legend of Bhagat Singh(2003), Yuva (2004), Omkara (2006), Golmaal (2006), Golmaal Returns (2008), All The Best: Fun Begins (2009), Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), Golmaal 3 (2010), Raajneeti (2010), and Singham (2011).  The last three years including the current one has been the best for Ajay Devgan, the two time National Film Award winner.

Salman Khan's career: Salman Khan has worked in more than 80 films, started off in a minor role in Biwi Ho to Aisi (1988), became the ultimate romantic icon with Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) and then went on to play a stellar role in  memorable films like   Saajan (1991), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998) and Biwi No.1 (1999),  Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Tere Naam (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), No Entry (2005), Partner (2007), Wanted (2009) and Dabangg (2010). Though Salman Khan has given many flops in his career, the huge successes that he had given at regular intervals ensured that he was in the reckoning. Like Ajay Devgan, Salman Khan has been in the best form since 2008 with Wanted getting cult status.  Salman Khan has been a part of the most profitable ventures in Bollywood including Dabangg (2010), Ready(2011), Wanted (2008),  Tere Naam (2003), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994) and Maine Pyar Kiya (1988).

By the way, best friends that Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan are, they worked with each other in two films-Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and London Dreams. Ajay Devgan walked away with more praises in HDDCS while Salman Khan overshadowed Ajay in the dismal London Dreams.

So let us know whom do you think is better, Ajay Devgan or Salman Khan?

Bollywood's Best Male Frienship Movies(Guy Bonding at its Best)

Going to be the success rate of Bollywood films in 2011, one can safely conclude that movies based on male bonding and friendship always seems to have a clear-edge. Bromance is the order of the datr. Let us look at some of the films in 2011 that had male bonding as an integral part in films

1. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara: Originally called ‘Running with the Bulls’, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has turned out to be a cult movie with its Facebook fan page touching 3,50,000 All the three friends in the movie are at some stage of their lives but are not yet totally happy. They have the best  time of their lives once they go all out on a trip to picturesque fears, battling their inner fears, sorting out what is wrong in their lives, while having a helluva time snorkeling, sky diving, smashing tomatoes at each other and completing the famous bull run. Phew, did I forget them merrily singing the Doordashan medley?

2. Delhi Belly Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor have their life in deep shit, literally.. They stay in a matchbox apartment and have to fight over things like the orange juice and filling water. Put three guys in a room and there will be filth of all sorts, physical and verbal and DB excels in showing it the way  it is. Beyond the insanity, the madness, the absurdity; the guys manage to give solid support to each other, specially when Vir and Kunal volunteer to save Imran’s girlfriend’s life.

3. Dil toh Baccha Hai Ji: Another movie that showed male bonding in a commendable manner.  Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi and Omi Vaidya stay at Ajay’s place, they have their own private lives but one common scenario; all three lose their love.

4. Double Dhamaal: A mad-cap movie which may not have been a critic's delight but the audience was sold to the funny eccentric ways of Javed Jafferi, Riteish Deshmukh, Aashish Choudhary and Ashish Choudhary

Here are some fantastic Bollywood male bonding/friendship movies

1. 3 Idiots (2009)-One of the best friendship movies ever, Aamir shows Sharman and Madhavan how to reach for their goals.

2. Rock On (2008)- A movie about boy-band, what broke them and how they remerged as a force to reckon with.

3. Golmaal series: Though Sharman Joshi was not there in the sequel and threquel, the brat pack of Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade , Arshad Warsi and Kunal Khemu have always worked.
4. Munnabhai Series- The bonding between Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi on-screen is historical, need we say more?

5. Rang De Basanti (2006); A cult movie, there will never be one like this The way the friendship traversed in time from college campus to another era, the metamorphosis of each guy from being a casual bystander to a proactive rebel with a cause, this was a defining movie.

6. Dil Chahta Hai(2000): A trend-setting movie in every manner, this film revolutionized male bonding. The film had UBER COOL written all over it. Modern day friendship has never been documented in such a zingy manner before. The ideal buddy frame of the Aamir, Saif and Akshaye sitting on an old sea-facing wall and looking across to the horizon remains immortal. The three remain the ultimate poster boys of friendship.

Bipasha Basu in Raaz 3

The Bhatts always had a love-hate relationship with Bipasha Basu. Mukesh Bhatt had said that the woman should be proud that two of her biggest films, Raaz and Jism have been Bhatt productions. The Bhatts were quite angered when the dusky actress declined to do an item number in Murder 3 which eventually went to Yana Gupta. Mahesh Bhatt too had said, "Bipasha tried to impose her starry airs on my company which has been a springboard to her stardom. We decided not to succumb to her tantrums."

However now things look different for both sides. Fresh after her breakup with John Abraham, the actress is hell-bent on going full blast be it in her personal life and professional life. The Bhatts have been impressed with Bipasha’s new found commitment and zeal to do Raaz 3. Mahesh confirmed, "Yes we are taking her onboard. Bipasha Basu comes full circle."

Chitrangada Singh walks out of Krrish 2, Jacqueline Fernandez comes aboard (2.5)

It was clear that Chitrangada Singh would be the villain alongside Vivek Oberoi in one of the most anticipated films of the near future, Krrish 2. However, the recent development is that Chitrangada has decided to walk out of the project.

Director Rakesh Roshan said, “I was to start my film in October and took dates accordingly. Now, the film is going on floors in December and Chitrangda is having some problems with her dates then. She has already committed her dates to some other project in December and cannot delay it. So I am looking for some actor who can give the dates according to my schedule.” He did not say that he had decided to zero in one any other actress as replacement but sources close to the project confirm that Jacqueline has been roped in.
An eyewitness and source who is a part of the project divulged to the media, “Hrithik and Rakeshji jointly met Jacqueline for a script reading session that went on for more than 3 hours. By the end of the session, Jacqueline seemed to be quite interested about doing the film.”

Though Rakesh Roshan has cited date problem as the real reason behind Chitrangada’s walkout, the truth is that she felt sidelined in the film. When she read the final script, she was surprised to see that her role had been shortened to such an extent that she looked nothing more than a prop in the film. Chitrangada’s friend says, ‘When the the final script emerged, she realized that her role was reduced to something of a cameo. And she did not have time for useless cameos.” As evident by her films, Chitrangada consciously chooses to go for scripts that give more teeth to her role rather than fleeting ones.

Not a Love Story Movie Review-Mahie Gill and Deepak Dobriyal Impress

Not a Love Story, as everyone knows by now, is based on the gruesome murder of TV executive producer Neeraj Grover by Emile Jerome and his fiancé-girlfriend Maria Susariaj. Though Ramu has said that his movie is fictional and has nothing to do with the real happenings, he recently turned around and said that he made Not a Love Story on the basic premise of how the couple would make love in the same room with a dead body near by. So yes, it is his take on the infamous incident that happened three years ago in Dheeraj Solitaire Building, Malad(May 7th 2008)

Story of Not a Love Story
The movie is set in Dheeraj Solitaire Building, the same one where Maria had stayed and the spot of the actual homicide. But in the film, the protagonist is not a South Indian actress but a North Indian (Punjabi ) one called Anusha Chawla (Mahie Gill) with starry ambitions. Though she does not respond to casting couch offers directly, she befriends a guy (Ajay Gehl) who gives her a break. In due course, they come close and one night after party, she invites him to spend time with him, so that he could go straight to work the next morning . At night, Anusha chooses to ignore her boyfriend’ call as she listens to a sob story by this new guy. They end up getting intimate and spending the night together.

The possessive boyfriend Robin Fernandez (Deepak Dobriyal) lands up at his girl’s home and is shocked to see a man in the buff sleeping on her bed. Anusha in a state of panic, says that he had forced himself on her. The men have a scuffle and an enraged Robin shoves a knife in Ajay’s stomach. As the TV executive  lays dead, the couple wonder what could be done. Anusha breaks down and cries heavily, while Robin tells her to go to Hyperciti Mall and get a knife to cut the body and dispose it off. Akin to the real incident, Robin cuts the body into several pieces and disposes them in bags, which they carry to a jungle near Dahisar and set  afire.

Robin leaves his fiancé  by telling her to keep  mum and not to leave any room for suspicion to anyone.. But Anusha is not able to maintain her composure when the police starts interrogating; she finally she breaks down and says the truth. The two are arrested, the law takes it course with both the lawyers pitting the two lovers against each other. During one of the trial sessions, a broken Anusha says that she wants to see her boyfriend just one time. While they meet under police superivision, Anusha tells him that she had an affair with Ajay. A scornful looking Robin looks at her directly and lip-locks her in full public view.

Plus points of Not a Love Story

1. Ramu manages to stir up the fear quotient and thrills without going the violent way. There is not much gore but yet there are tense moments, some of them horrific as well. In fact, if you had not known the Maria Susairaj case, you’d have felt that there was going to be something spooky in it.
2. The movie is technically sound . The zany camera movements (something that you get habituated to), the camera work shot in natural light, Sandeep Chowta’s stunning background score, the haunting twist to the Rangeela Re track, slick editing and solid screenplay make the movie a super watch.
3. Mind blowing performances by Mahie Gill, Deepak Dobriyal and Ajay Gehl

Minus Points of Not A Love Story

1. The second half is slightly slower compared to the first one and a couple of scenes with Mahie getting spooked out, thinking that Ajay is still in the room, reduces the thrill aspect. The director tends to up the horror quotient when it was not really required
2. Ram Gopal Varma uses the camera to move through every mound, nook and cranny of Mahie Gill’s anatomy. The way it zooms in and out of her posterior and peek down her blouse when she does the most routine of things can make some of us feel uncomfortable especially if we are watching it with someone who could be offended or influenced. Also at times, the voyeur camera exploits Mahie Gill, inexplicably moving up her dress to show the color of her under garments in a scene when she is traumatized and near depressed; this is something that is both irrelevant and unjustified.

Performances in Not a Love Story

One of the biggest reasons for watching Not a Love Story is the performance factor. Deepak Dobriyal and Mahie Gill vie for top honors. Deepak bears a maniac look and he communicates with his eyes so brilliantly that you believe that there could have been no one better to do that role other than this talented actor. Likewise for certain Mahie Gill, who had done this complex role  exceedingly well. Be in a glam role in the first half or a terrified, de-glam avatar in the second half, Mahie impresses in equal measure. They both deserve a huge round of applause for whipping up some serious chemistry with their histrionics.

The others are also brilliant in their minor roles. Ajay Gehl is fantastic in a brief role, Zakir Hussain has pitched in just another ‘wow’ performance. The others Darshan Jariwala, Neil Bhoopalam, Ganesh Yadav and late Rasika Joshi make an impact in their own roles.

Best scenes in Not a Love Story

1. The casting couch scene- Mahie Gill walking out of the office of an ad director who ask her to compromise
2. Mahie Gill breaking down after the murder
3. Deepak Dobriyal’s mixed feelings; confusion and cool demeanor as he thinks about what to do with the body
4. The police interrogation scene involving Mahie Gill
5. The last scene, when Mahie Gill tells Deepak Dobriyal about her affair with the TV producer

Conclusion:
Not a Love Story is among Ram Gopal Varma’s best works. It may not be exactly true-to-life but he has managed to translate his version of the story brilliantly.

Aarakshan Movie Review-Aarakshan has no Aakarshan

Ajay Devgn said recently that Aarakshan is not controversial at all. I came out of the theater and told the policemen guarding the theater that there was nothing remotely concerning (or even thought provoking) in the flick, let alone being riot-worthy The cop agreed, saying that they were asked to waste time due to political pressure. Some ‘Rajneeti’ this

Anyway, back to Aarakshan movie review, what can be said about a film that loses it focus mid-way and becomes a jaded melodrama that ends in a whimper of sorts?

Prabhakar Anand (yes, Big B) is a principled principal who does everything noteworthy but not note-worthy. In other words, he gives financial support for students who are broke, acts as guarantor for people who need loans and does everything that is fundamentally laudable for the human good, but does not believe in trading his goodness for monetary gains. Dare call him a casteist and you’d end up with a suspension letter.

There is a young lecturer called Deepak Kumar( Saif Ali Khan) a Dalit (does not quite look like it) who has a thing going with the principal’s daughter Purvi(Deepika Padukone). There is a rich guy too, Sushant Seth( Prateik Babbar) who is the son of one of the college’s trustees. Both the guys have divergent views, so when there is a Supreme court mandate that gives more reservation (Aarakshan) to the SC/SCT and OBC, there is a huge supportive uproar from one side and an acidic one from the other. Matters hit a disconcerting note between Deepak and Sushant while there is another racket of Mitlesh Singh (Manoj Bajpai), a professor getting political support to start a coaching class by the side.

After an altercation with Purvi on his stance against her father; Deepak leaves for US. The principal is not able to take the bureaucratic pressure and resigns. The vile college professor Mitleish assumes his chair..sorry, gets his own chair and also runs a franchise of his very own lavishly funded KK coaching classes. It does not take time for Prabhakar Anand to turn pauper and it does not take much time for him to turn the tide and establish his own style of education on the strength of his good old principles of goodwill, integrity and hardwork. Finally, the evil meets his fate and the good rules.

Plus points of Aarakshan

The first half of the movie is taut and moves seamlessly. A couple of scenes like the procession of dalits near the gate of the Shankuntala Takaral College, the sequences between Big B and Saif Ali Khan do leave some impact.

Minus points of Aarakshan

1.. Director Prakash Jha looks positively confused; yes it is not a cakewalk to make a movie on a sensitive topic but considering that he is a pro at issue based films; something better than this insipid attempt was excepted from him. Aarakshan become a totally different movie in the second half. Post interval, it is just a tirade against private coaching classes and their profit motive. Whatever happened to the mainstay of the film- caste-based reservation?
2. The execution too is dismal, you can make out that half through the film, the director knew that he was playing with fire, and so he watered the entire script down with a clichéd treatment. The movie neither preaches, nor entertains; it just disappoints. If you are looking for an engaging perspective on education, you may have to look elsewhere.
3. Prakash Jha’s confusion is so evident that he does not even know whether to take the flirtatious gestures of Prateik Babbar for Deepika forward, or leave it as it is, because she is Saif’s girl. There are way too many characters in the background with half-baked characterizations. Also why does one need to signify the good with a decent attire and the bad with an over-the-top ghastly look? For instance, since Mitlesh Singh (Manoj Bajpayee) is a cheat and scammer, he has to do with a funny curl on one of his forehead, the wig gone askew and a fake devilish grin.
4. Just when you think Bollywood has evolved, you come with the usual stuff about the good guy losing all his supporters only to realign to him at towards the ending reels.

Performances in Aarakshan

Aarakshan is purely a Bachchan film and the superstar sleepwalks though the role, performing in his usual suave, dignified and understated manner. To summarize his performance in one word-classy  Saif K Ali Khan is sincere, he gets a couple of scenes to go full throttle and he does convincingly but sadly, he is robbed of screentime. Deepika Padukone is pretty but she is not so effective in the intense moments. She has done better stuff in the tougher Lafangey Parindey, hasn’t she? Prateik Babbar is also disappointing, he is not able to give the required depth to his character. The biggest shock is Manoj Bajayee who shows that even he can be a bad actor. Hema Malini, who is the founder of the college, comes in the end and trust me, she looks amazingly beautiful even with the gray wig.

So,should I watch Aarakshan?

Clearly, we can hold the director at fault for a compromising script, compromising screenplay and compromising performance. There is no aakarshan in Aarakshan
