Ra One Movie Review-Mistakes, Should I Watch Ra One?

Ra One has opened to mixed reactions, there are some who are praising the movie to the skies while the others feel that it is a big let-down. The funny part is that some die-hard SRK fans felt Ra. One was disappointing and the actor's critics liked it. Anyway here are the mistakes of Ra. One that we cannot digest:

1. Shah Rukh Khan adopts a casual stance for the 'Shekhar' character and takes the Tamil accent for granted. Sometmes, he says 'Rumba', at other times 'Ramba' for 'Romba'. And when the moment of crisis arrives, his accent disappears.

2. The logic of Ra One is twisted, if not flawed. One cannot fathom how the computer program starts thinking for itself even during the developmental phase. At the same time, this uniquely complicated game is so basic, that even a school kid can develop it from the scratch? (referring to the last part of the movie)

3. An exasperated Kareena Kapoor wants to know how can a game become real and take the form of a real person. Her son (Armaan Verma) calms her down saying that he will explain later. He never does.... That's Ra. One for you.

4. The writing is shoddy and instead of focusing on the game and its skillful precision to track down Lucifer, the three writers of the movie just focus on making it a Shah Rukh Khan spectacle. How did Arjun Rampal (Ra One) get the passport to travel to India to search for G.One? Now that is a colossal error.

5. There are a lot of paradoxical elements in the film, on one hand you call it a children's film and then you have Kareena Kapoor writing a thesis on profanity, the child making repeated condom jokes, low brow humor, gay scenes and Kareena Kapoor boob press scene. Then they introduce a Karva-chauth scene; talk about Indianizing a super-hero movie! In short, the movie does not stick to its plot/

6, You can feel that there is a conflict in the vision of the director and the producer. At one point of time, they seem to be contradicting each other.

7. Who is a superhero? He is the one who connects with the audience, who saves everyone in the world and their dog. But here, the whole thing is about G.One trying to save his family from Ra One. Who gives a damn? The audience does not feel any sense of urgency or motivation, they are just passive to the turn of events. The villain in a superhero movie is the one who knows the weakness of the superhero and uses it to his advantage We do not see that in Ra One.

8. The superhero also does not have special power and all Ra One and G One do is throw laser beams at each other, as a form of combat. Quite amateurish, must say.

9.. The start and the end of a movie means a lot when it comes to the impact, more so in a superhero film. See the best superhero films like Spiderman, Terminator series or Iron Man. Here the starting scene just rode on star power of Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt, it was intentionally comical but many were not laughing. The climax was no great shakes either. Compare that to Robot's noisy but jaw dropping climax.

10. Apart from the 9 different types of hammering that I have done for Ra One, I still acknowledge the fact that Shah Rukh Khan took a risk with the film, and a huge financial one at that. He could have made any romantic movie that viewers can easily relish and made lot of easy moolah as if the project was on auto-pilot. But he still what he felt like, even though the outcome is far from satisfactory.

Ra. One or Robot, which one is a better film?

Enthiran (Robot )was based on the premise that one should be cautious about use of technology because when technology attains mastery over you, it can be very different to break free. It featured Rajnikanth in dual roles, one as a scientist and the other as an android robot called Chitti. Robot’s story is about the scientist’s endeavor to control a robot which can do all sorts of complicated tasks easily. When his fiancé says that the robot lacks emotions, he manages to upgrade the software in such a way that the robot is able to perfect comprehend and bring out human emotions. The plan backfires when the robot falls in love with the woman(the scientist’s fiancée) and also goes all out to destroy the world when it falls in the hand of another scientist with devious bent of mind.

Ra. One is a naïve Tamilian who works in the gaming department of Barron Industries. The company gets a contract to make a game to be released in Indian. To look up to his son’s standards who thinks villains are cool, the father creates a game with the villain as almost invicible He also injects artificial intelligence technology so that the villainous robot can learn new technology and techniques as the game moves ahead. He also makes another good robot called G.One which is quite strong but not as powerful as Ra. One. Both G.One and Ra.One have H.A.R.Ts, electronic devices that give them power and ability to play. However, the HARTs are also a liability which means that without the HART, one cannot die in the game. Death can happen only in Level 3, and only when both the HART and the hero/villain are together. The game is played using motion-sensor body suits to be worn by real-life players Trouble brews in when Ra. One comes out of the game in search of Lucifer, the scientist’s son who had stopped the game in level 2. The robot wants to kill Lucifer at any cost; only G.One can save this from happening.

While Robot’s budget was Rs. 162 crore, Ra. One’s budget rose to Rs. 175 crore making it the most expensive movie in India. Which movie did you like more Ra. One or Robot in terms of plot-line, technicalities, songs and performances?

Ra One or Bodyguard which is a better movie? Better still, who is the king of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan. Both Bodyguard and Ra One got mixed reviews but they opened to fantastic response.

Shah Rukh Khan's Ra. One, the most expensive movie in Bollywood, released across 5000 theaters in 2D and 600 theaters in 3D. The movie opened to mixed reviews, some of them calling it a masterpiece in technology while some criticizing the content or the lack of it, in the film. Ra. One has opened to a historic opening. How to Convert movie to 3D; Bollywood 3D Movies

Ra. One’s 3D version undoubtedly, costs higher than the 2D version. Ever since Avatar 3D got rave reviews everywhere across the world, back home the fantastic response to Haunted 3D assured the makers that it is worth the cost to convert a 2D film into 3D and release it at a higher price. In Mumbai, different theaters charge differently for 3D films, Fun Cinema charge Rs. 200 to Rs 380, Inox charges Rs. 450 and Big Cinemas charge Rs. 200 to Rs. 350, a good 50 to 75 bucks over the 2D Bollywood version.

How is a 2D movie converted into 3D?
To convert a 2D film into 3D, a process known as Rotonoscopy is done on the characters. This process consists of separation of the background and the foreground. Color correction is then done on the background and depth is added. Special 3D elements are then added in the 2nd phase. The process of conversion from a 2D film into a 3D film takes time, say three months to five months for a movie that is 2 hours long. Ra. One’s 3D conversion however was completed in record time, according to a source closely involved in the making of the film . According to Vikram Bhatt, a 3D movie costs 40 percent more than the normal budget of a film.

Don-2 and Joker are 3D movies. Ragini MMS 2 will be released in 3D. Dhoom 3 -3D may release in 2013. Vikram Bhatt has decided to release all of his future movies in 3D. Dangerous Ishq, a thriller directed by him as well as Raaz 3 will be released in 3D. Ram Gopal Varma is planning two films in 3D- an adventure treasure-hunt movie called Raksha with John Abraham and a horror flick, ‘Warning’ with Ritiesh Deshmukh.

Ra One Movie Review- One of the Best Bollywood Films Ever!

Ra. One’ s movie review may read like one of the yet another endorsements for the film, but we can’t help raving about it, this movie has blockbuster written all over it. Shah Rukh Khan has always been a risk-taker in his career and even though his career was ridden with criticism in the last few years, he has put all of them to rest with this jaw-droppingly spectacular film- Ra. One.  A smart investment no doubt, the material of the film is such that everyone involved with the film will reap steep returns not just in terms of money but also in terms of emotional and creative fulfillment

Ra. One raises the bar of mainstream Hindi cinema. Shah Rukh’s supremacy over the box office had been threatened twice, once in 2000 when Kaho Na Pyaar Hai released and also  ten years later, when he was pulled down again for no particular fault of his as Salman Khan zoomed ahead. In both the occasions, SRK has shown that he is made of superior stuff- as he says, "I have no competition, because I do not have a finishing line". SRK fans can raise a toast to that after they see Ra.One.

You already know a bit about the story and making of Ra One. But for those who want to stick this page-here goes; a father Shekhar Subramaniam (Shah Rukh) tries do every single thing to make his son feel that he has 'daddy cool' but loses heart when he sees his dad not measuring to his expectations. Just when the son feels that his father is a lost cause, Shekhar hit bulls-eye when he designs one hell of a game. Though things become amazing momentarily, the family’s happiness is short-lived when the game that was meant to be played with, starts playing with the happiness of the family.

Every aspect of Ra. One has a stroke of genius attached to it, the co-writers who are big names in the writing and publishing world; Kanika Dhillion, Mushtaq Sheikh and David Benullo can take a bow for weaving an international concept dipped in the honeyed flavor of Indian sentiments. One should also mention about the dialogues written by Niranjan Iyengar and Kanika Dhillon, nothing filmy here; everything commonplace and relevant.

 It is not just about the stunning chases, the kick-ass actions scenes and the jaw-dropping visual effects but the amazing twists and turns in the screenplay that make this 2 and a half hour extravanza a must-watch.

The captain of the ship, Anubhav Sinha can take a bow.  Vishal-Shekar lives up to the reputation of being the most dependable music directors on the bloke. Did we mention about the A.R.Rahman’s pulsating background music? Keep your ears cued in as you get mesmerized by Rajnikanth’s Chitti Robot entry in a crucial scene.

Look out for this new kid on the bloke, Armaan Verma, this kid is the backbone of the film. He is so effortless in his performance that if there was rating scale to calibrate his work, he would measure 10 on 10. The film has a range of actors in supporting albeit key roles, Shahana Goswami, Dalip Tahil, Satish Shah, Suresh Menon, Mushtaq Shiekh and Tom Wu.

The USP of the film , Shah Rukh Khan (he really 'sold' the film to the audiences) dives full-on on a script that he has always loved ever since childhood. This really has been a dream-role because he fancies doing a super-hero action role more than a romantic dude that he has always excelled in. SRK is so endearing as a father and wow-inspiring in the role of a superhero with a golden heart. Kareena Kapoor as mentioned before, looks her best in this film and does her role impeccably well. The three very special actors, Rajnikanth, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt floor you with their appearance and amazing screen presence; demi God Rajnikanth of course remains the scene-stealer. Arjun Rampal reminds you of Robert Patrick, the villain of Terminator 2-Judgement Day, cold, slick and sharp.

Casting Couch in Bollywood- 'Compromise' for Roles

Casting couch in Bollywood rears its ugly head with Subash Ghai, Anees Bazmee and Anoop Jalota as film personalities being accused of casting couch and sexual favors by author and former model Rina Golan in her book "Dear Mister Bollywood: How I fell in Love with India Bollywood and Shah Rukh Khan". The Jerusalem born New-York based author has been rather direct in naming these people and has even said that some of the things that these people have said to her are so explicit that they cannot be fit to print in newspapers and media publications.

“I want you to trust me and surrender to me completely. I will take you around with me everywhere and you will see how your life will change,” he said.
Subhash took me to the bedroom …. I decided to change my normal approach and abandon my principles. But there was no way I could fool myself. If I had made it this far without giving in to some powerful … guy offering to help me then why should I give up now?”

Golan about Anees Bazmee:
